Budokai rocks (and I don't mean B3)
With the impending release of many a DBZ (/GT) game I thought a good look back at what has come before, to see what we might be in store for, would be a good idea.
On my happy trails through my DBZ rom's on my pc (I have tried to get the actual games but there is to much hassle) I got a bit...bored. I then progressed to a little more recent games and I began to play Budokai 1.
I never truly noticed before, but this game rocks! Why did they ever do away with the cutscenes? That was the dumbest idea the makers ever had/will have. I know it probably has something to do with space on the disc or something but c'mon, why do we have to watch cut-outs have a conversation eh? I think that if the developers do the same and look back at previous Budokai's for idea's for the new one, this is the place to start.

I think it was probably time constraints more than anything. A DVD has a good deal of space. There wouldn't really be a probably keeping the cutscenes. I mean, think about, FFX has far more in that reguard than B1 did...

<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.

But in gameplay terms, Budokai 3 easily puts Budokai 1 to shame. With good rules for the transformations, instant teleports, more original combos and a bigger character roster (and far better visuals), B3 is the king!
Of course, B1's cutscenes were awesome, but they were not the key in making a good fighting game.

"Destiny"... people claim by force what they desire, wreak havoc upon others in order to acquire it... and they call it "destiny".
But they already did the cutscenes in Budokai 1,
so if you would put the same cutscenes in the other games it would look to much like the previous,
no new concepts.
Then it would truly be buying the previous game again.
Though I agree it would be cool if they did it in a last Budokai version for late DB all DBZ and some cool DBGT like Super 17, Bebi and White Shenron.

They didn't have to do them exactly the same. They could have added new ones, etc. I still think that they need to make a new Budokai game that merges DU and Story Mode...

I think the only Budokai games worth owning are 1 and 3. Think about it. 1 had almost an entirely different soundtrack, (well, not an entirely different one, but some of the best songs in 1 rarely played during gameplay in 2 and 3.), #19, Zarbon, and Dodoria are all playable, and it has the best story mode of all the games. 3 had the best graphics of all 3 games, the best attacks, the best characters, new songs, and everything you could want in a DBZ game. 2 however, had a boring story mode, good graphics, but nothing you can't find in 3, and all the same moves from 1 and 3.

Now I'll tell you my feelings of the games, gather round, gather round.
Anyway, I still love Budokai One, although when I play it- in contrast to having played Budokai Three, I can definitely feel the age of the game [but in a good way, as I love older games,] on top of it, the one thing in Budokai One that still eludes me to this day, is completing that "Hеcule" mode.
And as for Budokai two, I liked the capsules, but the whole board game thing really didn't do it for me. Maybe because I am not a board game person, though.

I am 100% with you. What-if fusions and intro aside, Budokai 2 has nothing to offer if you own B1 and 3.I think the only Budokai games worth owning are 1 and 3. I didn't realise so many people thought Budokai 2 was that bad. I mean, okay, so it wasn't as good as the other two but I thought the board game idea was really...inventive and made us look at a DBZ game from a different perspective. Also, the "what-if" fusions, sweet!! It was a bit of a let down that they didn't include any in B3
But, even after that little rant, I still think B1 was a better game (than B2. B3 rules!!)
