Kageyama Hironobu's Autograph

Post by risachan » Sun Feb 22, 2004 8:28 am

While I was on exchange in Japan by an amazing stroke of luck I managed to get Kageyama Hironobu's signature. I guess since original DBZ music is a fairly important part of DaizenshuuEX, I thought I'd share this with everyone. I *know* there are a lot of ridiculous 'I went to Japan and met so-and-so' stories around, so please do read this through before you claim this is a fraud.

My host sister and I went out to dinner with the family of one of my host sister's friends. I mentioned that I was a big DBZ fan and the father asked me if I knew who sang Chala Head Chala, and I was like "Kageyama Hironobu!" He told me that Kageyama Hironobo lived in Osaka (where we were) and Kageyama Hironobo's father worked with him at the hospital he worked at. Then he offered to get Kageyama's signature for me.

I thought it was just him being polite, but later on in the mail I got the signature. The image below is a scan of the signature, the text reads:
"To Risa (signature) Nice to meet you! Dragonball Z 8/24/2003"

Image

Here's the letter from Mr Nakayama (my host sister's friend's father). It reads "Risa (sama). Today I received Kageyama Hironobu's (The DBZ singer's) autograph and I am sending it on to you. Please take care of yourself. Nakayama Takayuki & Machiko"

Image

Well... pretty cool huh? I wish I could have met him too, but that's probably asking a lot. Mr Nakayama also mentioned that Kageyama would probably be really pleased to hear that he has fans overseas. I don't know why, but just the fact that he knows we're out there is pretty cool. ^_^

Kageyama's autograph? Lucky.

It's great to hear about these things... nice story for the children, allthough they won't know about Kageyama unless you force them to live with DBZ and anime strongly in their lives, like I will. Even though I won't have kids anyway.

Awesome stuff! :D :D

Hey, risachan... can you do me a favor? Take the URL out of your "Location" area in your forum profile? It's stretching the width of that column way too much ^^;;. There's a specific "URL" section in your profile you can throw it in. Thanks!

I know I won't change my mind. I know myself to never be responsible enough for a kid 24/7 until one of us dies. It's the same reason why I never got a pet. To just wing it isn't fair to the kid. Saying this outloud just made me bachelor for life didn't it? :(

risachan:I hate you! And now I'm going to have to stalk you! :P Seriously, you're really lucky! 8)

Dayspring: Not necessarily. There are a lot of women around nowadays too that don't wish to have kids. I certainly don't. Not because I don't think I'd be responsible enough, I just don't want that kind of lifestyle. I want to keep my independence and freedom. Plus I own 5 pet ferrets and they pratically are like kids! :P And on the contrary, I think that's very responsible of you to feel "winging it" wouldn't be fair to a child. A lot of people I think have kids for really selfish reasons.

Nice on getting the autograph. Reminds me a couple of years ago when I took my little cousin to the mall where Dameon Clarke and Eric Vale were making an appearance. Since they were out of paper, Mr. Vale signed my cousin's jacket.

I got a weirder one. A friend of mine was attending Anime North and was at the hotel bar when she stumbled into Scott McNeil and didn't have her autograph book, so he ended up signing a popcorn bag. :D

I was there last year. I'm thinking of attending this year wearing a shirt which says NO SMORKING which I purchased from Engrish.com.

Back to the topic; it's cool that you got his signature! I also have a signed Slayers graphic novel by Veronica Taylor...if anybody knows who that is. :?

Did she do the dubbed Amelia or Naga? I can't remember. I actually liked the Slayers dub. Lisa Ortitz put a lot of spunk into the role of Lina and Megumi Hayashibara's a hard act to follow. And you should wear that T-shirt Matthias, I think it's hilarious. My favourite "Engrish" line I've ever heard was this one on a Naruto pirate where it's the scene with Haku surrounding Sasuke with his ice mirrors and the subtitles translated Sasuke as saying "I be inside." !!!! By the way Matthias, I'm just curious, is your name taken from the Redwall books?

Yes, she was Amelia. Ash Ketchum and his mother she plays in Pokémon. Mattias? Actually, that's just a funky way of re-writing my name. That and I sort of snatched it from Mattias Ohlund of the Vancouver Canucks.

The best Engrish has to be "Keep out of Children" written on an exacto-knife. I bought an "I Hate My Self and I Want to Die" shirt for my sister at Christmas. (http://www.engrish.com/detail.php?image ... 2001-11-03)

Surely "Access to the beaver area", on a t-shirt, with an arrow pointing straight to the crotch, is the all time best ever piece of Engrish of all time ever?

I don't think that qualifies as "Engrish" Liam. That just falls under the category of "nothing-on-one's-mind-but-sex". 8)

I'm not sure. I really, really doubt that the little smiling Japanese girl knew what was on there.

Although true, it might not be "Engrish" in the sense of bad translation. The writer might have known exactly what it meant, and just wanted to have some evil fun.

The fact that it had "muff valley" right above also lends credence to that theory.

All done with. ^_^> Sorry about that.

In other very random DBZ news from Japan, in Osaka I actually came across two cafes, one called "Piccolo Daimao" and the other "Piccolo Junior". XD I wish I'd had my camera on me at the time! I also saw a small ramen bar called "Son Gokuu", but that could have been refering to the original Son Gokuu, so I guess it doesn't count.

Whatever a pence is, you're making me want to hurt orphans when you say it.

Oh, man. I wish I could've seen that... makes me want to go to Japan.

A pence is multiple pennies. 100 pennies make up a pound, the standard unit of currency used in the UK.

Now leave those orphans alone. They smell.

Wait, is a pence a specific amount of pennies, or just the plural name for them?

For your information, brainbag, Orphans make good training dummies. a piracy website.

Unless those orphans are dressed as Sakura, Sailor Moon, and Miaka, it doesn't count my friend! :x
