Transformations and Personality changes

Post by Legendary Saiya-Jin » Sat Feb 02, 2013 2:42 pm

It's been said that, a lot of times, when there is a transformation in this series, there is also a personality change that follows.

I would like to offer a challenge to that, however; I won't refute the obvious exceptions, such as Great Ape, but for Freeza's transformations, for instance, I've heard people assert that his personality changes according to the forms, but how can we know this for sure? Couldn't it be dismissed as his overconfidence following the transformations? Also, for Super Saiya-Jin One; it's accepted that their state of mind changes to be more emotional and restless, and this seems to be supported, however, couldn't it be that the Saiya-Jin has to make their self this way in order to achieve the transformation? After all, we see Gokuu withering in such emotional turmoil after Freeza murdered Kuririn; I would like to think, perhaps, the transformation requires "remembering" that state of mind in order to transform, so it might be like they have to constantly expose themselves with those thoughts to feel those emotions again to harness the power and transform, not necessarily that form "causes" these emotions.

I think it could be the same with Gohan and his ascended Super Saiya-Jin, and maybe even with Seru and his transformations.

In my opinion, I believe characters undergo personality changes when they transform. Take Imperfect Seru for example. When Piccolo first encounters Imperfect Seru for the first time, you notice that Imperfect Seru personality is the same as Piccolo, a very smart and cunning warrior. When Imperfect Seru absorbs No. 17, his personality changes and he becomes more arrogant due to his power increase. Semi-Perfect Seru now has the same personality disorder as Vegeta, an arrogant fighter who believes that, every one else is beneath him. Once Seru absorbs No. 18, his personality changes into a more laid-back polite persona. Perfect Seru personality now mimics Son Goku's laid-back attitude and Freeza's politeness. Once Perfect Seru returns from his self-destruction, his personality changes once again, as he now mimics the cocky attitude of Super Saiyajin 2 Gohan. So, I believe all characters undergo some type of personality change when they transform.
