So I've been working on this...
http://www.daizex.com/guides/names/canon_01.shtml
This section's not finished yet (and I still have to create an index for this particular guide), but the purpose of this page should be pretty straightforward. Lemme know what you think, point out errors, etc.
Also, please tell me whether or not the Chinese / Japanese characters show up for you. I've been trying to figure out a good way for them to appear, regardless of the system a person uses. As far as I know, they should appear just fine for anyone using Mac OS X, as well as anyone who has Japanese / Chinese character recognition installed in Windows. The problem is, not everybody who uses Windows has this installed by default. I know there's some way to trigger a prompt to install this functionality, but I don't know how to make it appear (it may be as simple as specifying a language in a meta tag or in the DOCTYPE declaration, though right now, the latter makes the HTML invalidated ^^;).
So, uh... yeah. Comments / Questions / Tips on how to do the above would be much appreciated.

An excellent name pun section. Much better than any other site I've ever seen that just uses base text along the lines of "Bulma=bloomers=underwear". Unfortunately I can't help with much.
Above the pics you provide I see three to four squares. I'm not sure if that's kanji not showing up.

That would indeed. What I really need is a tutorial that shows me how to force most web browsers to comply. I'm reluctant to straight-up encode the page in SJIS, because that makes the non-Japanese text look pretty damn awful in some browsers (IE 5 for Mac, I'm lookin' at you).Dayspring wrote:Above the pics you provide I see three to four squares. Unicode strings should conceivably show up regardless of the page's encoding, and if they don't, it most likely implies that the browser and/or OS doesn't have a font to display characters in that range. I'm just not sure what I can tell the browsers so they'll display it correctly.
EDIT: Hmm.

I can see the Kanji/kana. But one thing I've noticed is that my computer can display japanese text, but all of my friends computers and the computers at school can't, they always end up being a bunch of squares. And through playing around with Microsoft word, I found I have four fonts with Kanji/kana: MS Mincho, MS PMincho, MS Gothic, and MS PGothic. I'm not too sure if that has anything to with getting the characters to appear in a web browser, but whatever.

You could take the easy way out. Make an image of the Japanese text. Even if that means coding it as you did now, screen caping that, and then cutting out the text and uploading it. Though, I'm sure you could find an easier way.SaiyaJedi wrote:So, uh... yeah. Comments / Questions / Tips on how to do the above would be much appreciated.

I can read the kanji on my laptop. I don't know if that means you fixed it AND if my laptop's a better computer, or if it's just that my laptop's a better computer than my other one.

They called him one in the old DB dub as well. In the 10th Anniversary movie, I don't know what was up with that other than weird mistranslation since even little kids can tell the difference between a tortoise and sea turtle.SaiyamanMS wrote:I believe that "Tortoise" was only used for the 10th anniversary movie.Adamant wrote:I swear FUNi has used the name "Tortoise" for Umigame as well.

Also, in the 10th Anniversary movie everyone calls him Turtle, but he keeps claiming that he's not a Turtle but a Tortoise. Not that anyone actually believes him.

Why do you call Pu'er "Puar"?Jord wrote:Why do you call Puar Pu'er?
I use that spelling because it reflects the name pun. "Puuaru" is the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese word "pu'er," which is the name of a specific kind of tea (just as "Oolong" is).
And I suggest that next time you feel the urge to ask such a silly question, you should check and see if I haven't already answered it in the article itself.
