Ha, I updated in chronological order until now as you may have noticed these past days (completing the "Demon King Piccolo" and "Saiyan Invasion" parts)!
But today, I realized I didn't have to make it chronological and could add any chapter in any order actually (which I started to do with the "Son Goku meets the world" and "Red Ribon" parts).

Well, if you guys have preferences for which specific chapter you'd like to see first, feel free to share.
If no requests are made, I'll just keep adding them up in my own order.

Enjoy the official manga colors! 8)

Added a system so that you can see which parts of the story have absolutely no previews to show yet, which events have some chapters previewed and which events have all of their chapters available as preview panels.

Don't forget that if need be, you can ask me to give priority to a specific part for the "Son Goku" arc missing chapters, or ask for a specific panel you are interested in even if it wasn't selected to appear on the preview list (I'll post it for you in its own post).
Otherwise, things will just keep going and being completed step by step just like they did so far. :)

Enjoy the official manga colors!

Question: Do you have the digital editions of every color volume released thus far?

If so, could you confirm which chapters belong to which volume? I downloaded the equivalent of volume 6 on a lark, but discovered that it started partway through what I knew of as volume 6, and seemed to go a bit into volume 7. If they've moved around what chapters go in what volume, we may need to do some revising on the main website.

First of all: thank you for the effort.

Now, is it me or is this version somewhat censored? The image where Raditz and Goku fall to their death looks a lot more "clean" than I remembered it in the original manga?

No, it's the same. The colors kinda hide some of the blood from Radtiz though, as it sort of seems to blend in with parts of his armor when the image is that small.
Direct translations of the Korean DB Online timeline and guidebook.
My personal "canon" and BP list. (Coming Soon)

Unfortunately no, I don't.
I use the Mangapolo videos to get each panel in high definition (720p), as they likely use the source file instead of scans, so it's kind of the ultimate quality for single digital panels, I guess.
And it helps me being patient until it's released in France in a few years.

However, I have wondered the same since covers seem to be classified by "parts" with a specific color for each, and as far as I remember, the original Tankobon didn't always end one of those "parts" at the exact end of a volume, it could go from one part to the other right in the middle of a volume.
Mangapolo videos get erased as they go on, but I'll try to keep an eye on the covers (for each digital chapter published, they show the digital tankobon cover that goes with it) and see if it seems to match the original tankobon or not.
If I notice something, I'll post about it (unless someone beats me to it, of course).

Exactly, it is all uncensored but the tiny size of those previews may undermine some details.

Okay, my search went pretty fast! :)

If Mangapolo is correct (which it likely is, I don't think showing the next cover is a random decision), then no, the digital Tankobon don't follow the pattern of the original Tankobon.
For example, on the digital version, Tankobon 8 seems to switch to Tankobon 9 for chapter 101, when Yamcha enters the demons' toilet.
On the original Tankobon, Tankobon 8 switches to Tankobon 9 for chapter 97, when Goku has just destroyed the Red Ribon army and meets up with his friends, with chapter 101 being around the middle of the volume.

Also, if the original Tankobon pattern was followed, then it would result in a same artwork changing the background color to the one of the new part (for example when switching from the "Son Goku" part to the "Red Ribon" part on a same volume, the color would change to match the new part, but the artwork would stay the same cause we would be on the same volume).
But everytime a new part starts, the artwork fully changes to the next Tankobon cover, implying that two parts cannot be put together on a same digital Tankobon volume unlike the original Tankobon, and implying a different chapters layout.

All of this seems to imply that the digital Tankobon don't have the same layout than the original ones.
Of course, there's no 100% proof given that someone having the digital volumes would need to confirm it, but I do think that when Mangapolo shows a cover at the beginning of a chapter video, it is meant to indicate from which volume it was taken, and I do believe it can be trusted on that. But it's your call, you decide if it's a valid source of information. 8)

The problem is, with Mangapolo videos being deleted as more are published, there's no way to use them to check which chapters are on which volume now...
I have kept panels and covers, not the videos that go with them, so I can't tell "this digital Tankobon starts with this chapter". :(

I have kept panels and covers, not the videos that go with them, so I can't tell "this digital Tankobon starts with this chapter". :(
I only own Volume "17" (Saiyan Arc / Part 4 Volume 1) digitally and it starts two chapters later ("The Mysterious Alien Warrior" - 195) and ends also two chapters later ("Son Gohan and Piccolo Daimao" - 207) than the original tankobon.
So, I assume they keep the tankobon length more or less the same (the original print version wasn't entirely consistent with the length) and only rearranged the chapters so that it is divided by arc.

Julian, I believe the chapters partly presented in the mangabroadcast page are the first chapters of each digital volume, so I believe you can open each of them and then do the math 8)
Also, Mangabroadcast has been updated with the digital tankobon Freeza arc and Chogashu!
http://mangabroadcast.jp/feature01.html

Interestingly, they're splitting the chapters differently from the print version: the digital Freeza arc starts with Bulma and Popo getting the ship from Yuzanbit, instead of starting with Bulma, Krillin and Gohan in space like the print version.

That's just when I re-read Julian's reply that I realized he already knew the digital Tankobon were not in line with the original ones and was actually asking for the actual layout for each volume if possible!
I don't even know how I could possibly get it wrong given that his post is absolutely clear about what he asks! :?

Anyway, Omega's totally right, you can see the example of the digital Tankobon 9 starting when Yamcha goes into the demons' toilet just like I said.
So yeah, you can find out about the chapters layout for absolutely all volumes simply by looking at the preview pages on Mangabroadcast, as it shows exactly the first pages of the first chapter of each volume!
Nicely thought, dude! 8)

I wonder why didn't they switch the Nyoi-bo's sheath color back to wooden-like.

To avoid inconsistancies as much as they could since it was that way with the Pilaf arc - the only arc that decided its colors based on the last fully-colored pages by Toriyama, even if they had to suddenly change them).
The truth is, we will never truly know if elements set in the Pilaf arc were really their choice or if they were unwillingly stuck with them due to the way they made their decisions back then.

The Pilaf arc was published before the idea of recoloring the full manga and had that way of changing scheme colors depending on the last fully colored pages by Toriyama as chapters went by.
But after that, when doing the rest, they chose that they had to remain consistent and chose their various colors with the idea of one definitive color for the whole story.
Yet, to be as coherent as possible, they had to keep the choices they had shown during the Pilaf arc, including the Nyoi Bo and Kinto-Un, so that only chapters 1 and 2 are out of line and the rest of the Pilaf arc seems to be in line with the whole manga.

We'll never really know if they would have made the same choices if they had chosen to decide one definitive color for the whole story (not considering Toriyama's color inconsistancies) from the start.

Makes me wonder if they ever release the first arcs in paper, will they re-do the first two chapters for consistency sake? (I wouldn't mind if they re-did all of the Pilaf arc, I'm not a big fan of the softer shading of that arc; I like the sharper anime-like shading of the newer full-color releases much more)

Part 1 and Part 2 are complete! 8)
You now have previews for all "Son Goku" and "Red Ribon" chapters, expect no more changes in those parts (if some specific panels are requested, they'll be in their own posts).

From now on, when looking for new previews, head mostly for Part 3 (Demon King Piccolo) and sometimes Part 4 (The Saiyans).

Very nice guide!
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

^ Glad to give a glimpse of this wonderful edition (though I wish it was Kanzenban-sized, but I understand why they might not want to do that: smaller size, less color ink to spend and pay for during printings).

I hope those previews do line up as they should on most of your computers, cause I arrange them in two lines on a widescreen, so anyone not having a widescreen computer (although it has become the norm for quite a while) might end up seeing quite a messy display for each chapter! But hey, I guess the most important is to be able to see them, regardless of how they are displayed (though it's definately nicer to have a clean display). 8)

Could you wrap all the chapters in spoiler tags? It's impossible to read the recent posts while the pictures are loading, unless you press Post Reply and look at the posts at the bottom of the page.
