Worst Dragonball Z Movie...ever
Which of the 13 DBZ movies do you think was the absolute worst? I would have to say Lord Slug (Super Saiyajin Goku). I mean all Toei did was reinact the entire Piccolo Daimao saga with a different character. Super Saiyajin my ass. Goku's transformation looked like shit and Slug's henchmen were just plain stupid. I mean we've all seen the powers used by Slug in the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. This is why I think Lord Slug should be renamed Lord Suck.

Despite the ominous reputation it had when I first sat down and watched, I actually didn't mind Bio-Broly all that much. No, it wasn't a good reason to bring back Broly a third time (and certainly not like that), but being a fan of the chibi Saiyan set I found their antics amusing enough where I don't want to banish Movie 11 to the bowels of Hell . . . but hey; that's just me.Eclipse wrote:Bio Broly. This was the final straw for me. Broly was a great character in the movie he was introduced in, Second Coming portrayed him as a Saturday Morning cartoon villian, and this? Pure stupidity.
I haven't seen movies 2 or 3 yet, but I'm familiar with what happens in them. So . . . hmm, I suppose I'd have to concur that Lord Slug is the least inspired. It just doesn't add anything new, is all.
(Eclipse, I enjoy your sig. Where exactly does Goku say that, and to whom?)

#2 was my least favorite. I didn't like the whole 'I need a body to put my brain in' idea; it was a bit stupid. If I had to choose another one, I would pick #4. Although, Gohan's whistle song was kind of cool. LoL, call me what you will.
I might be wrong, but I think Goku says that to Janemba in movie 12.(Eclipse, I enjoy your sig. Where exactly does Goku say that, and to whom?)

I enjoyed that part of it, too. I've always liked "happy/playful" young Gohan, and I think Piccolo's reaction fits him perfectly.h3ndrix2005 wrote:#2 was my least favorite. Shifting back on-topic . . . uh, Movie 4. Definitely 4. Yes, I said that already, but . . . HEY, who else?! A-heh heh . . . worst Dragonball movie ever?

Up until a couple months ago, I would have said:
"I've only seen movie 4 twice. Once to watch it, and once again just to confirm that it really was that awful."
But then I randomly popped in the FUNimation disc a few months back just to see it again. Sure enough, it really was that bad. Ugh. Let's take the entire Piccolo-Daimaô/Piccolo-Jr. arc, re-do the entire thing, make it totally suck, have no idea where Toriyama's going with SSJ, and make a movie. WTF.
I don't particularly care for movie 11, but I feel it has some moments that keep it from being completely worthless (namely just interactions between Goten & Trunks). Plus, the ending actually has some *new animation* of the kids as babies! Neat!

I waited so long for that ending, ever since I'd heard about it. It's hard to believe it was animated purely for the credits and that it wasn't taken from somewhere else; I'd love to know what Vegeta's saying when baby Trunks is grabbing onto his face!VegettoEX wrote:I don't particularly care for movie 11, but I feel it has some moments that keep it from being completely worthless (namely just interactions between Goten & Trunks). OFF-TOPIC NONSENSE: EX, I hope you don't mind my asking, but it seems fairly stupid to start a whole new post just for this . . . just who is that in your "Holy crap!" avatar?

As noted, it's Gendo (haha... "It's GENDO!!!") from Evangelion. Specifically, the screen is from our Obligatory EVA Trailer from 2003. It's kinda become a catch-phrase... >.>Li'l Lemmy wrote:OFF-TOPIC NONSENSE: EX, I hope you don't mind my asking, but it seems fairly stupid to start a whole new post just for this . . . just who is that in your "Holy crap!" avatar?

I liked all of the movies. Most people I have talked to have a strong dislike for movies 4 and 11. I can understand the dislike of movie 11, but I don't see why they don't like movie 4. I loved it when Goku grabbed Slug's fist and went pseudo SSJ. I also liked how in the dub Stupify kicked in when he grabbed Slug's fist. I guess the worst DBZ movie to me was movie 11.

In my opinion, movie 9. Bojack was totally inferior to even the lamest of the other villains.
And that Ikari Gendo "Holy Crap" avatar of the boss' o'er there was the big thing that made me realize I was going to like it here. Additionally, I can't watch NGE without yelling "Holy Crap!" each time Gendo appears.
I disagree. Random punk rock or whatever stuff has no place in Dragon Ball. Or any anime for that matter. Leave that to talented AMV directors.I also liked how in the dub Stupify kicked in when he grabbed Slug's fist.

Actually, Disturbed is a rock band. A damn good one, too. If music such as Stupify has no place in anime then would it not have a place in AMVs either? I guess it all boils down to preference. I love Disturbed and I loved Stupify in movie 4. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, though. The S wrote:I disagree. Random punk rock or whatever stuff has no place in Dragon Ball. Okay, I like movie 4. Sure it's similar to the Piccolo Daimao Saga, but movie 12 is similar to the Buu Saga and movie 7 to the Android Saga. I suppose I probably have a bit of a bias since I'm a big Gohan and Piccolo fan and there were lots of sweet moments between them in this movie. Still though, some people here I think are being a little unfair to it. The henchmen weren't that bad, and I thought the weakness they found in him was interesting and unexpected. Goku's SSJ transformation was done like that because at the time the movie came out in Japan, not everyone had seen the TV ep where he transforms, so they wanted to keep that a suprise and not give it away in the movie, so don't be so quick to judge before you know the reasons.
As for which movie I think is the worst? Well, I don't hate any of them, but I'd say the one I care for the least and think is weakest is movie 11, simply because it doesn't have Goku or Gohan, which to me is essential when you have a DBZ movie. I thought it was pretty cool to have #18 and Kuririn in there, but they along with the Chibis just can't carry an entire movie. It also doesn't help when you have a shadow of a former villain, that was already not that exciting in the previous movie. Broly should have stayed dead in movie 8. And as funny as the Chibis can be, I get tired of their antics after a while. They were funny in movie 12, without overstaying their welcome, but for 40 plus minutes? No. And one more thing that I know is off-topic, I resent that they used pretty much the original Japanese cover but removed #18. She is clearly one of the main characters in the movie when you watch it.
I like rock as much the next person, but it's annoying and just doesn't work slapped here and there in the DBZ movies. It's distracting, especially since the volume always seems to overshadow the dialogue and annoying. And the only reason they're doing it is because they want to make DBZ into some "hyped-up macho Rambo-esque fare". It just further fuels the assumption that DBZ is for brainless neanderthals.
S: I know what you mean. Everytime I watch my EVA DVDs now and see Gendo, I think of it. Damn you Mike!

Right on. FUNimation's version of movie 4 made me like it a lot more than I'd expected to. Random rock may have no place in the Original, but it's right at home for FUNi's, and I must say I enjoyed the tracks and their placement in that movie. Plus it's the DBZ movies, so I think they're entitled to have a little fun.Last Son of Krypton wrote:Actually, Disturbed is a rock band. A damn good one, too. The worst for me would have to be 11 or 12. I didn't like the Janemba plot, and the whole thing just seems kind of stale to me.

I feel like absentmindedly commenting on this thread.
Anyway, the only movie thus far I really don't like (discounting the last three movies, of which I've yet to see,) the second Broly feature. I am not going to knock it though, I just don't care for it. Oh, and the Super Android feature, don't really care for that one either.
Otherwise I am cool with the rest of them. 1, 2, and 3 are my favorites however.

Really? I felt Bojack and his group were actually pretty cool and would've been far more entertaining to have their own arc, rather than having to deal with the pukefest Garlic Jr. arc. It would've fit the timeline quite well, too. Unlike Garlic Jr. which is filled with plotholes. >_>;The S wrote:In my opinion, movie 9. Buh? How in the world was that movie similar to the Buu saga? o_o; The whole Fusion bit is the ONLY thing I can find similar to it. No one broke out of Hell in the Buu saga. Majin Buu didn't have some crazy Zanzouken-like technique, nor did the entire planet look like it was filled with gigantic jellybeans. ..And I don't think anyone needed to swear to break anyone out of a sort of prison in the Buu saga. >_>;Jerseymilk wrote:but movie 12 is similar to the Buu Saga
Similar? No. More like trying to add on to it considering we see the events of Dr. Gero getting his head kicked off by #17.Jerseymilk wrote:and movie 7 to the Android Saga.
Worst movie? I'll go with 11. Brolli's overused, the way he was beaten was absolutely ridiculous and not even Mr. Satan's antics was able to save the movie from being horrible. :\

I think he meant the similar character traits of Janemba and Majin Buu. Janemba was fat and somewhat goofy, and his final form was extremely powerful and never spoke. Plus, their colors weren't so different, either. Purple, red, pink; what's the difference?Buh? How in the world was that movie similar to the Buu saga? o_o;
Note how they said "random." Despite FLCL being completely random, its music fit COMPLETELY. And if I'm not mistaken, The Pillows made that music specifically for FLCL. The American rock bands for the movies are terribly random and don't fit scenes at all, nor were they designed originally for the movies like the original soundtracks were. o_OMagnaboss wrote:FLCL would like to put it's boot up your ass please.

I have only seen four of the movies so far (hopefully I'll be able to see the Bojack movie next week) but I liked the Lord Slug movie, it was the first one I watched and I liked the soundtrack. I'm not very fond of The World's Strongest (scratch that I thought it was crap, such as Dr. Kochin being a polygonal robot, WTF?), but the Tree Of Might is definitely my favourite.
