I've been watching Toonzai/Vortexx's version of DBZKai.
And....Its frankly not that bad.
Yeah. There's the infamous Blue Popo, Halo Balls and Magic Sparkle Explosions and certain toned dialogue. But I realized something, these are 10 second edits in a 18 minute episode. Its not that bad. I know these edits are ridiculous and all, and it must be hard to see the show being edited in any way but I feel the exposure and most importantly the happiness of kids who cant see DBZKai via ways other than Vortexx makes the edits worth it.
Oh and there's uncut DVD's so there isnt really much of a problem with getting an uncut alternative. However I AM worried for Digimon Fusion...

That's a good attitude to have. Yes, it's edited more than the Nicktoons version but still, it's not as bad as what we got in 1997.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:And....Its frankly not that bad.

I'd have to disagree. While both are edited to an extent, the Toonzai/Vortexx version edits out far more than what the original dub did.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:That's a good attitude to have. At least the Toonzai/Vortexx/Nicktoons edits are still faithful adaptations of the source material, though they are heavily edited for content, they're still an improvement over the Saban airings from 1996-1997. The initial run of DBZ of US TV had entire scenes and episodes removed, spliced, rearranged, and let's not forget the replaced music and completely re-written dialogue.
Anyone who feels the Vortexx/Toonzai edit cuts more content, needs to actually go back and watch the 1996-1997 version. Kids watching Kai nowadays have it much better.

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Theoriginalbilis pretty much said what I would have said here. The original 1997 dub cut out far more stuff. They cut whole episodes, omitting characters and backstories. There was so much stuff cut out that the episode numbers didn't match up to the original Japanese episode numbers.Gonstead wrote:I'd have to disagree. Basically what they did back then was use just use the original Japanese episodes as source footage to create their own DBZ episodes however they saw fit. At the time this is how Saban was doing Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and to a lesser extent Sailor Moon. It was fairly common practice back then. And we didn't have an uncut home release of the series. This was it! That was the only way we could watch DBZ in English. Now get off my lawn, and I'm keeping your Frisbee!

Absolutely. It would be infuriating if it was the only version that we had access to, but since it's just an unfortunate necessity (due to cable rules) with an uncut version readily available, I don't mind at all.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:Oh and there's uncut DVD's so there isnt really much of a problem with getting an uncut alternative.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

That. I barely noticed Nicktoons edits (Though obviously the most lenient of the three) back when they aired it because I was too busy being distracted by the Yammamoto score and vastly better script. Like I should be.theoriginalbilis wrote:At least the Toonzai/Vortexx/Nicktoons edits are still faithful adaptations of the source material, though they are heavily edited for content, they're still an improvement over the Saban airings from 1996-1997.
