What do you do when DB is discussed on another forum?
The title says it all. I see some places like the escapist talk about DBZ sometimes and I actively avoid it because I know it will be a thread based solely on the dub with wrong information. In fact, recently, I was on 4chan's board called /co/ and Dragon Ball was brought up. Someone mentioned the Faulconer score and I made a green text saying that the Japanese score was superior. Everyone said that the music sucked and the English dub was tons better and Goku, Gohan, and Goten all sound the same and how they sound like nails on a chalk board. It's just hard to be the only knowledgeable person there and everyone just brushes you off. It's also kind of frustrating. Anyone else have an experience like this? You know, where you wanted to talk about Dragon Ball, but everyone was talking about the dub and not the Japanese version.

Oh, that's easy: I don't.
I made this forum partially so I wouldn't ever have to do that again. I essentially killed alt.fan.dragonball in the process, but it was all for the greater good.

I always feel lost when I hear about Dragon Ball stuff on the web before I got interested. I assume this website was basically a dub only site?VegettoEX wrote:Oh, that's easy: I don't.

As Mike said; I don't. I'm far too used to the luxuries we have here.

I totally get that, but sometimes my inner Dragon Ball fan just wants to correct that person because they're usually wrong.Insertclevername wrote:As Mike said; I don't. I'm far too used to the luxuries we have here.

Re: What do you do when DB is discussed on another forum?
It rarely happens for me either, since the only place I go other than here where it would happen sometimes is the FUNimation Forums, which have been inactive as of late, so...yeah. It pretty much doesn't happen.
When it does happen though, I try to be as polite to both sides as I can. If I see someone say something from the dub as a point for a debate, I bring up that that was only in the English version of the show. I don't shove it in their face that they're wrong or anything, but I do usually try to correct the person, and point them here (well, the site proper rather, not the forum) as evidence when I can find it.

It's discussed all the time on Comic Vine.

I usually avoid it. They always turn into discussions about the dub or battle power debates.
I have seen it brought up a lot there and I was more surprised by the number of people that like the original version. The problem I have seen is that a lot of people there think Goku was made to be Toriyama's version of Superman.ShadowDude112 wrote:The title says it all. I used to occasionally go over to the DB Wiki to help out there, but it's truly a lost cause. Nowadays, I tend to just roll my eyes and come back here.

To be fair, when you see Goku's Saiyan origin, it's not hard to understand why people see it that way.Makaioshin wrote:I usually avoid it. They always turn into discussions about the dub or battle power debates.

While I am possibly what one might classify as a "dubbie" (I prefer the term Dubbed-American, thank you ), I prefer the community here as it tends to be a much nicer place. We can discuss Dragon Ball without some of the problems I might face on other forums.
That said, I would kill for a general whatever/off topic board to talk to the people here about stuff other than Dragon Ball, but I suppose that's just wishful thinking.

I avoid even reading it.

"Over saturation is easy. Just drag the slider to the right and there you are: instant interest. And certainly, the majority of the public likes saturated color images. In fact, if you want to quickly create a popular image, simply over saturate the colors and increase the contrast. While you may not achieve a sophisticated image, you will achieve an image that will please a less demanding audience." - Alain Briot

Read and laugh. Sometimes I correct people but they most likely say "English dub is the only dub that matters"so I just ignore.
Not other anime through. I'll say video games, Music, and other things. That said, I would kill for a general whatever/off topic board to talk to the people here about stuff other than Dragon Ball, but I suppose that's just wishful thinking.

They're wrong because they have a different taste in music and voice preferences?ShadowDude112 wrote:I totally get that, but sometimes my inner Dragon Ball fan just wants to correct that person because they're usually wrong.Insertclevername wrote:As Mike said; I don't. I've told someone off for linking those damn ultra-compressed flipped scanlations of the manga. I wish those things would die.

I sometimes go to other DB forums to see how the peasants speak of it and grind my teeth that they do not have my specific preferences.
To be honest, though, many so-called fans aren't really DB fans.

Going to other forums would be self harm for me since I usually bang my head on the wall after reading posts. So I tend to avoid it. The only place I can't avoid it is Youtube.

In other off topic news, Funimation has license rescued Cowboy Bebop.

If something is truly perfect, that's IT! The bottom line becomes there is no room for imagination! No space for intelligence or ability or improvement! Do you understand? Youtube is normally where I find the most ridiculous comments and most of those people can't see any side of an argument besides their own.
And to the Superman comment, the whole time watching Man of Steel I couldn't help but think of it as the Vegeta arc.
