Inconsistencies created by filler

Post by Polyphase Avatron » Tue Jan 28, 2014 10:16 pm

What are some of the worst ones?

One I specifically remember was that Mutaito was defeated by King Piccolo, but in the filler episode it's shown that Mutaito is stronger than Goku, even after Goku defeated King Piccolo.
Cool stuff that I upload here because Youtube will copyright claim it: https://vimeo.com/user60967147

There's that filler where Vegeta beats up Gohan, mocks Goku's 'death', and cackles and brags about how he's going to take over the world. When the manga events start being followed again, he's a completely different person.

The infamous Dr. Frappe/Dr. Gero issue.

The two hastily inserted anime-only lines about Pure Buu being the strongest Buu (and this being stated while Goku is still fighting him in SS2) is completely contradictory to everything else that happens. Including the other anime filler, like Buutenks easily beating SS3 Goku, and Super Buu beating SS2 Goku and SS2 Vegeta (no idea why he didn't go SS3, not that it'd help).

Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Another big one is that people could not die again during the Otherworld Tournament. In the manga, it is said that if you "die" again when you are already dead, you lose your existence.

Granted, the tournament happened a long time before this was said in the manga, so I'm not sure if you'd say that the filler created the inconsistency in this case.

Well, that goes in the same category as the Dr. Frappe thing.

Has anybody talked about when Gohan "comes back" to help Super Saiyan Goku fight Freeza, and actually does modestly well? This being after he gave so much Ki to Piccolo that he could barely fly.

There's generally a lot of battle fillers that mess things up for me. Vegeta, untransformed, does better against little Buu then he does as a Super Saiyan 2.

Or it could be distinguished as dieing in the afterlife while dead is different from dieing in the living world while dead :wtf:

That's not a bad idea. I'm far more disdainful towards all the "bad guys in hell" filler, but that's partially to how stupidly that content was handled in the first place.

I don't know. Isn't the Kaioshin Realm in the afterlife? The conversation there is where the inconsistency occurs.

There's the whole flash back of Planet Vegeta from King Kai. It could also easily explain that King Kai didn't want Goku to know about Freeza.

Isn't the Kaioshin Realm in the afterlife? The conversation there is where the inconsistency occurs.
The Kaioshin Realm is separate from everything else--it's in its own little "sphere" orbiting the big one where the mortal universe and the afterlife (and the Demon Realm) are all located, according to the Dragonball universe map that's shown up several times in the guides.

So technically the "no dying in the afterlife, but if you die somewhere else while already dead you're permanently gone" workaround could actually work.

...Except I'm pretty sure either the anime filler scenes or the manga/non-filler anime scenes have someone mention that Buu will destroy everything in the afterlife (and presumably "super-kill" everyone there) if he's not stopped, so there's still an inconsistency as to whether or not people in the afterlife can die again (and be wiped from existence completely that way.)

Ok, thanks.

Yeah, that's the scene when Buu teleports to the Grand Kaio's planet. I believe it's Goku who says that, once he senses Buu there.

Also the fact the so called ghost warriors in Boo are described as equally as powerful as the real deals..and somehow Goku and Vegeta didn't get creamed. Even if for those who believe SSJ3 Goku>Ultimate Gohan>SSJ3 Gotenks, Goku wasn't an SSJ3 and Vegeta was fighting off SSJ3 Gotenks.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

By filler logic:

Super Buu > SS2 Goku > Ultimate Gohan > Super Buu > SS3 Goku

Goku says he can't beat base Super Buu, as in the manga, and in filler is shown to be weaker than Gohan going by their respective performances against Buutenks. Until he gets into Buu's body; suddenly he can take a clone of Gohan explicitly said to be as powerful as the original without even using SS3 (I'm fairly sure he's a SS2 in that filler; his hair is the same as in the Majin Vegeta fight and he has lightning when powering up). But then he fights Mini Super Buu as a SS2 along with Vegeta and loses, despite just holding his own against Mini Clone Gohan in the same form. So I guess Super Buu is stronger than Gohan who is stronger than Super Buu?

Filler SS2 Goku even manages to land a surprise hit on Buuhan

All of GT officially can not have happened now. Why? Because in GT, Pilaf and his cronies are old. Battle of Gods, which is canon, has them as children. So, yeah. No old Pilaf, no Kid Goku again, etc.

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

They could have wished their youth back somewhere in the huge time period between BOG and GT.

Also, BOG isn't canon. One, there is no canon. Two, BOG has just as many errors as other "unworkable" movies, like Movies 6 and 7.

I really don't like that explanation on Pilaf and co. They learned their mistake from wishing for youth and decided to wish for riches. It just doesn't make that they'd wish to be old again and then botch that as well.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Not really other then Mr. Satan not knowing who Dende is. Bluma most likely made up her age to make herself feel much younger. BOG takes place after the Buu saga, so it can fit easily while Movie 6 and 7 can not.
