If Goku Agreed To Become Earth's Kami

How do you think DBZ would have played out if Goku accepted Kami's offer at the end of Dragonball and became the next Kami of Earth?

Perhaps Goku might possibly become a bit stronger than he was just from living in the thinner air than living at lower altitudes? When Raditz comes, it's possible that he may be able to inflict some damage on him, nevermind that Raditz is trying to attack Kami-sama, and Mr. Popo might have to fight with him.

I wonder if a god in DB should remain celibate... Because Gohan raised up there in the thin air and so on of Kami's Palace would start out as more powerful then the crybaby raised on Earth's surface that we know from DBZ.

I really don't see Goku as 'Kami' material. Lack of magical Dragonball-creating powers aside, his hedonistic approach to self betterment through training is at odds with the fixed lifestyle and associated duties of being Earth's God.

I am also curious as to exactly what these duties are other then presumably watching over the earth. Regardless of what kind of duties perhaps goku is light hearted and simple enough that he doesn't seem to desire this type of position out of a lack of interest. Goku loves to fight but doesn't seem the type to assume a position as "God" as we all know he ended up not taking however designating dende. Finally based on my lack of knowledge on the specifics of Kami's job I would blindly assume Goku would continue searching for the thrill of training and fighting promising foes as usual hypothetically.

Goku would be stronger, but not strong enough to beat Radditz. The chances of Nappa and Vegeta coming to Earth are slim if Goku does not die or Radditz already kills him. There's still #17 and #18 as well. Goku won't be strong enough to beat those two on his own.

Excellent point, I didn't think about how Dr.Gero would be plotting against Goku with Androids he stands no chance against. I like your theory and I'm interested to see if anyone has a counter theory or something to add to what you had said.

If Goku became Kami, there would be a lot more possessions when baddies come. Maybe a cult will form where martial artists pray to be possessed by the God of Fighting aka Goku

Daizenshuu 7 says that apart from governing the Earth and creating the Dragonballs, Kami's duties involve giving training to chosen pupils and working beneath with Enma to oversee the passage of souls from Earth to the afterlife.

There's also Cell, but I would imagine he would be weaker without the cells of Freeza and Vegeta. #17 and #18 might be strong enough to kill him before he can absorb them.

I think Goku would make a great Kami after the Buu Saga. He is the main protector of Earth at that point (Gohan has become a scholar, Goten and Trunks are way too lazy, only Vegeta remains a serious fighter but unlike Goku he is much more of a family man at that point). He can teleport everywhere at will. He is training Uub, and I'm sure he continues to train Pan as well. He has good knowledge of the afterlife and personally knows the gods (unlike when Kami first offered him the job). I see no reason he couldn't be Earth's Kami at this point in time. There's no downside.

...Okay well, I do see one reason he couldn't -- the fact that Dende is too young to retire.

Very nice addition to conversation, i was waiting to hear what the duties were aswell. So Goku would be training people (like he went off to train uub in the actual timeline) and overseeing the passage of souls from the Earth to the afterlife (kind of like Goku arriving at snakeway but he got to keep his body). This is interesting.

Depends on where they would fight and if Gero's little robots could go there. If Goku and company faced Nappa and Vegeta up on the lookout, it's possible Gero's robots wouldent know where they fought or if they could even reach the lookout.

Kami only drank water , but now popo needs to cook so much it would be enough for a small town.

I don't think he would have cared about his godly duties what ever they are...i don't remember Kami doing much.

Funny, good point about the food. However i think it may stand that Kami did and Dende does more then we are aware of. That's where this conversation was seeming to go if you look at the evidence of what some other people above us mentioned (Specifically Blade referencing Daizenshuu 7 about the duties). You're right about feeling bad for Mr.Popo having to arrange all of the food though, Goku likes to chow down!
