How would you guys rank every arc? Including filler arcs and GT. My ranking is:

Freeza
Saiyan
Buu
Cell=High School Filler
Baby
Black Star Dragon Ball

I haven't seen/read part 1 in a long time which is why I didn't list them. I also haven't seen the filler arcs, except for one, or the rest of GT because GT bored me. Freeza's arc was amazing with Vegeta crying and the plot twists. The Saiyan arc also has nice plot twists. I put Buu above Cell because I really like Videl's character interactions with Gohan. I think the harder challenge would be ranking One Piece arcs with DB arcs but that's stuff for other forums.

GT is all on the bottom mushed up together along with Garlic Junior. The Other World Tournament is the best filler arc but doesn't compare with the actual series. I might slightly change it if this current "God" arc continues with a 3rd movie because I'm going to have to put that somewhere in my list as well.

I'll try to leave my personal preference and favoritism out of this, and try to judge them based on their quality compared to your average Shounen battle series.

1/2. Saiyan arc/Namek arc - 10/10
Going back and forth about this one, I think both are fantastic. The Namek arc's climax is far more cathartic, but the Saiyan arc is slightly better written in retrospect (mostly because the power levels weren't so crazy back then, and the zenkai boosts weren't ridiculous to the point you couldn't buy them anymore; also Freeza had an unnecessary amount of transformations, two or three would suffice and still give him the imposing and terrifying aura he's known for, 4 transformations was overkill). But I guess a big detriment to the Saiyan arc is that it's pretty much fighting 24/7, whilst the Namek arc's plot is more interesting and varied.

Honestly, I'd put the Boo arc over the Android & Cell arcs right now, some of the things it sets up get a good enough pay of whereas the Android arc is just a total mess.

I mostly like it because of Golden Oozaru, SS4 and Baby being one of the best-written antagonists in the series. Plus a lot of the other stuff like DB, the rest of GT and most of Super ranges from alright to outright bad for me.

Some people are used to underestimate the Buu Saga because it's not that serious and it is more simpiflied, and overestimate the Cell Saga because it's probably the most serious and tensioned of DBZ. But honestly I think that simplified arcs works better for DB than complex stuff, even because Cell/Android arc has a lot of plot holes and weird inconstancies in the power levels.

My rank is, to the best to the worst, considering Super and GT too:

1 - Namek/Frieza arc - 8,5/10
2 - All stuff before Piccolo Daimaoh's 1st appearance - 8,5/10
3 - Saiyan arc - 8/10
4 - Piccolo Daimaoh arc - 8/10
5 - Battle of Gods arc (Movie) 7,5/10
6 - Buu arc - 7/10
7 - Universal Tournment arc, alongside with the slice of life episodes in Super - 6,5/10
8 - Androids/Cell arc - 6/10
9 - Black Goku arc - 6/10 (but this rate can change until the end of this saga)
10 - Ressurection 'F' arc (Movie) - 5,5/10
11 - Battle of Gods arc (Super) - 5,5/10 or maybe a 6/10 if we consider the bluray corrections in the animation, maybe

1. Red Ribbon Army - 8.5/10
Perfect balance of comedy and action. Most of the world building happens in this arc and Toriyama's artwork was the best in the entire manga.

2. Saiyan - 8/10(slightly better than #3 cause of better character utilization)

3. 22nd Tenkaichi Budoukai/23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai - 8/10

4. 21st Tenkaichi Budoukai - 7.5/10

5. Piccolo Daimao - 7/10

6. Freeza - 7/10

7. Hunt For The Dragon Balls - 6.5/10

I was debating weather or not to put Cell or Buu at the bottom.

In the Cell arc so many characters act like idiots and the arc is filled with so many Deus Ex Machima moments that it stretches the suspension of disbelief to the absolute
breaking point even for dragon ball.

The Buu arc was just a mess. Its no surprise that Toriyama ended dragon ball after this arc.
its better than anything in GT at least but that is not saying much.

Buu Saga is not terrible, just simplified and not complex. But has the essence of Dragon Ball: comedy with good fighting action. And they developed Vegeta as a person who loves his family and a peaceful life(with training, yeah, but still peaceful).

Also, Toriyama planned to finish Dragon Ball a lot before Buu or Cell Sagas. Shueisha just made him work to write and draw them.

At least you know that GT is truly horrible, and that is good.

Am I the only one who likes Garlic Jr. Saga?

It was an improvement over Goku And Friends Save The Day for the past several sagas.

Plus, the idea of a villain that can't be defeated by brawn alone, and has to be outsmarted instead, thrills me. However, the problem is that Garlic Jr. is dumb enough to open the Dead Zone TWICE.
