Who is worse in Super? Chi-Chi or Mr. Buu?

Post by DBZAOTA482 » Mon Nov 02, 2015 7:08 pm

It's widely agreed upon that these two were hit with the worst case of flanderization in Super.... but my question is "Which one is worse"?!

Chi-Chi

In pretty much any episode where she has a predominant role, she drags it down with her outrageous antics... she spends the 100 million zeni (which is over a million in US dollars) Goku gave her in less than a week with no real explanation, won't let Goku train to match Beerus' strength (granted Goku is basically doing it for fun but his training would save the world in the long-run) making his work for money that she blew away, has become downright abusive towards Goku (she thinks Goku's training is nothing but a waste, she blatantly threatened to kick Goku's ass for (unintentionally) avoiding work to fight, and manhandled Goku both in front of Goten), and even tried to interfere in the way her own eldest son should raise his daughter... calling all Saiyans including her husband "battle-loving idiots"... then kicking Mr. Satan and her own son outside his house.

What's even more outrageous is she seemed to have mellowed out by the Majin Boo Saga so you'd think the staff for Super would pick up on this and try to give her further development (I mean, even the orIginal anime dI'd touch upin this)... instead they took a long inactive aspect of her character and exaggerated it to such a ridiculous extent where it's pretty much her whole character. She's now worse than she ever was...

Mr. Boo

Just... what happen to this character? Why would they dooo this to him? He used to be jolly and a good person who's only purpose in life was to kill and destroy... which changed when he befriend Mr. Satan. The anime filler from the original series and GT even realized this... yet in Super, he's no longer a misguided child or even jolly. He's just a complete douche now... he almost ruined Mr. Satan's rep just cuz he was hungry, was 5 seconds away from killing Bulma before Mr. Satan stopped him, and he started the whole fight with Beerus (as opposed to the movie version of the scene). The worst part is he gets no punishment for his actions... maybe Vegeta was right about Boo turning out to be a problem.

What about his relationship with Mr. Satan? They don't even act like friends anymore... Mr. Satan acts more like a slave to him and Boo treats him like shit... when Mr. Satan left out to town, Boo didn't even acknowledge him.

Which one of these... umm.... 'assholes' drags the show down more?

Would add Goku but he's not that bizzarely different from what canon showed him like.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

:D In terms of worse flanderization that would be Vegtea, but in terms of who is the bigger assholes Mr. Boo. You know I find how the characters act in GT is much more accurate and likable compared to super.

Look, there's a reason Chi Chi got turned into a flipping egg that one time. Buu's change is actually unexpected and kind of sad, so I'm going to go with Buu.

Probably Buu. The nice, cheerful Buu (who is still obviously distracted by sweets) seen in the post-Buu-Arc eps of Z was fun. I'm sad current Buu's kind of a brat now.

Chi-Chi....reminds me a lot of how fanfic writers who dislike her used to write her (it was the go-to method of jumping Gokû into another ship), and that worries me because since this is official story and not fanfic it means there's nowhere for emotionally-abused Gokû to run to. He's not gonna leave her for someone else relationship-wise in an official story. What they did (have him near-tackle Whis so he can run off and train under him with Vegeta-senpai) is probably the closest they're gonna get to something like that. There's ways to write Chi-Chi where you can still have Gokû go off to train with Whis without writing her so antagonistic about it. She was so chill in the Buu arc too...

Buu wins this, no contest...
They had such a good thing going in EoZ & GT... Now they turned him into an unfunny Eric Cartman, and for what!? Cheap jokes? sigh..

I miss the old Buu...

Majin Boo, with a doubt. He once had a charm about his gluttony but it has since gone

Y'know, I actually thought the same thing. Maybe Yoshifumi Fukushima is a low-key Goku x Bulma fan who's asshurt his ship sunk.

Glad some people feel my LOATHING for the fat bastard atm. I hope there's a moment where they decide he's not safe to have around.

I just realized I don't know what the current name for the Gokû x Bulma ship is. GoBul? Bulku? I don't know the answer to that. :?: Pixiv tends to use the ends of the Son family first names because all three of them start with "Go", but there's nothing there under "空ブル".
Torishima shipped Goku x Bulma before Toriyama gave Gokû to Chi-Chi.

I feel like I'm just sitting here waiting/hoping for King Ryû to be announced for the next batch of episodes. He's my current favorite writer on Super (creator of Takoyaki Vegeta, the VegeBul vacation episode, and the incredible VegeKaka princess-carry).

The only reoccurring bit I've liked so far from Yoshifumi Fukushima is "adorably indecisive Gokû", which happened in episode 1 and episode 15, and even then I admit as cute as it is it's a little ooc imo because Gokû's a pretty quick decision-maker who doesn't seem to think too long when asked something; as far as I can tell.

Chichi. I never *expected* Mr. Buu to be anything other than spoiled so the characterization seems fine to me. He is still "barely tamed" in my mind.

Whoever is worse depends on who's on screen longer. Chi Chi kinda wins because she has been on screen longer. Boo could win if he had more screen time. Either way both are terrible and intolerable pieces of shit in Super. Goku will be with his real life partner and real best friend Vegeta. They'll fuckin kiss eventually and make stupid shippers wet themselves with glee if they aren't already doing that.

I just realized Fukushima hasn't written any scenes where Gokû and Vegeta really interact yet. I actually can't predict what type of banter they'll have...now I'm really wondering how next week's gonna go down.

Ep 1 was the Gokû episode.
Ep 5 was...ep 5.
Ep 15 was a Mr. Satan with sad Gokû episode.
Ep 16 was nervous Chef Vegeta.
Ep 17 was impatient Gokû.

That's a tough one. Chichi's given more screen time to flaunt her annoying personality, but it's at least a justified extension of her already established character. Buu's a more odd case, as his behavior doesn't entirely make sense in the first place.

I'll have to go with Buu.

I don't understand though why we needed to clog the sub-forum with more of these threads when you already made a general though.

Yeah, I'm kind of inclined to agree with Zephyr as well. You've had at least 3 separate sub-forums talking specifically about characterizations in Super. The whole thing just seems a bit redundant.

That said, it's kind of hard to say. While Chichi can be a bit overbearing at times, I feel that here actions are understandable given her nature. She wants what's best for her first grandchild and she doesn't want her to live the reckless life that she's had from being Goku's wife. That's how I've seen it anyways. Given my mom was kind of like that for me when I was younger, I can kind of empathize with her. Then again that's just my view of Chichi.

People seem to really, really hate Boo's portrayal in Super, but I've never really been that annoyed with it. It doesn't necessarily go against the manga at all because there's so little of Boo after he becomes good in the first place. If anything, it follows the manga portrayal of Boo where he pretty much enslaved Mr. Satan when they first met. Also, regardless of whether you care about how Boo acts in the manga, Boo's only really had two appearances in Super. One where he was hungry and wanted Mr. Satan to feed him and another where he was eating and didn't want to be bothered to share because Boo likes sweets. Both were fairly quick scenes that were pretty much either for comedy or moving the plot along to create that moment of tension. It's like saying, "Dude Goku's such a dick. Remember when he let Vegeta get pierced in the heart by Freeza despite the fact that Goku probably could have blocked it? And also, remember in Super when Goku selfishly ditched Mr. Satan and almost ruined Mr. Satan's image because he didn't want to deal with Chichi?"

I feel like people are blowing up this whole "poor characterization" thing way too far personally. I actually don't mind both of their portrayals in Super. If I had to choose who I deemed as 'worse' though, I guess I'd go with Chichi. We've seen enough of her and clearly the writers intend to keep her constantly upset with Goku despite the fact that they've clearly acknowledged that she does care about Goku. Boo on the other hand, we've only seen in two short scenes which I honestly liked quite a bit.

One is a more extreme version of an existing character and the other is a completely different one.

So yeah, Buu is by far the worst part of Super and he is one of my favorites after the Pure Buu saga.

What a shame.

I think chichi is weirder because she asked for a lot of money when there are dragonballs. Why don't she ask goku to gather the dragonball instead. She can get unlimited of zenny.
The question has been asked by you 10000000000 times and we have become very efficient.
I don't care about non canon stuffs like game, guide book, movie, etc

It would be Buu for me, I think Satan's riches have spoiled him a little to much

I think he would be unsafe to be around as someone said above, if Beerus decides to take his favorite food's from him, and I'm talking Satan's entire Fridge here. We know Buu doesn't stand a chance against Beerus, but if he wiped his food while Buu was gone, then he would probably take it out on everyone else, including Satan.

Maybe Toei writers pull on Scarface, to make people hate Buu, before he dies in GT? In Scarface, Tony was shown as criminal, but with honor and rules he follow, but at the end he kills his best friend, and dies in ambush.

I've really been disliking both immensely, but for me Chi-Chi is the clear winner just for the fact that she's been on screen more often. Also, Boo's been a dick, but he's been schooled by Beerus for it, whereas I really can't get see Chi-Chi being punished for her stupid behaviour.
