How Future Trunks can be in DB Super/New Majin Buu Saga?
Many fans have always wanted Future Trunks to return for DB Super, which doesn't at all seem like it's going to happen. I guess his story ended with the the cyborgs and Cell. I just wish Toei would utilize Dragon Ball's breakout characters more. However, I got to thinking. Future Trunks CAN appear in DB Super, but it would be a standalone episode. Although we had this explored in Wrath of the Dragon with Tapion, whenever Kid Trunks was shown, it was clear he wished he had an older brother. So, I believe it'd be cool if Future Trunks came back to the past again (only this time during the Champa era) and enlisted the help of everyone to fight a Future Majin Buu.
However, Bulma would laugh at this conflict because she's friends with the mighty Whis who could EASILY take care of Future Buu. Future Trunks, Trunks, and Whis (with the promise of good food from Bulma) could go to the future and Whis could easily defeat Buu with one hit in comical fashion. Then, fans would wonder no more about how Future Trunks would take care of HIS Buu and it would make sense for a one-off episode because of how strong Whis is. Also, Trunks and Future Trunks could establish a brotherly bond during this time (which in classic Toriyama fashion is ironic considering they are the same person, just from different timelines). Raging Blast already teased a meeting between the two Trunks and although Shin Budokai 2 told a story about Future Trunks' Buu, it really doesn't make sense into the canon so now that Whis has been introduced as Bulma's friend, it would make perfect sense for him to take care of Buu for Trunks. Thoughts, if any (I have a feeling plotholes are going to be brought up)?
One more thing to add, this doesn't even have to take place during the Beerus/Whis era. If we want a genuine arc concerning Future Trunks' Majin Buu conflict, it can take place right before the Beerus Saga with Ultimate Gohan and Gotenks (might as well give the sons the spotlight/victory this time around) being the main characters to take down Majin Buu for Trunks (and Trunks would still be able to meet his older future counterpart if this were ever the case). This would be a good chance for fans to have their own version of the Majin Buu Saga with Gohan being the hero this time. Ah, it's amazing how many stories DB can still tell if it wanted to.

I've always wanted to see Kid Trunks meet his Future counterpart. I think it would be fun to see him in a short cameo like maybe he just wants to see how everyone is doing. If he already achieved SSJ2 then that could encourage Kid Trunks and Goten to train more seriously. Unfortunately it seems that the half Saiyans have been reduced to minor characters in Super so I doubt they would consider bringing back Future Trunks.

I really don't want to see Buu in Future Trunks timeline. It been stated in the Daizenshuu that Buu was never hatch out of his shell due to lack of ki to restore him on Earth. I think Future Trunks deserves to live a peaceful life.

Any way they want, as long as they put effort into it.
"His story is over" is a lazy excuse by people who lack imagination. If that was any kind of valid argument, Dragon Ball could have easily ended at the 23rd Budokai.

Agreed, he's earned his rest and certainly doesn't need to get dragged back into the new stuff where it's a mathematical certainty he'd become just another cheerleader for Goku & Vegeta like 99% of the other characters.Hellspawn28 wrote:I really don't want to see Buu in Future Trunks timeline. I get where all of you guys are coming from. I just always liked the idea of Trunks meeting his future self (DB Super episode 27 had a funny joke that referenced his future self) and this combined with Whis being an ally to Bulma seems like the perfect setup for at least one standalone episode. Also, my other option regarding an entire arc set BEFORE Super that has Ultimate Gohan and Gotenks as the heroes is cool to me because it's the closest thing to an arc/saga sort of retcon that Dragon Ball will ever be able to get. Comics can retell stories in different forms all the time, but manga never (or very rarely) get this chance. A lot of people say Gohan should have defeated Buu in the Buu Saga, so it'd be awesome if he ended up doing that in Future Trunks' timeline.ekrolo2 wrote:Agreed, he's earned his rest and certainly doesn't need to get dragged back into the new stuff where it's a mathematical certainty he'd become just another cheerleader for Goku & Vegeta like 99% of the other characters.Hellspawn28 wrote:I really don't want to see Buu in Future Trunks timeline. If it's an AU, sure do whatever with him. Comics have done lots of cool reimaginings and with a good writer on board (not Toriyama since I'm still not convinced BoG wasn't a fluke) it could be great. But any attempts to bring him back to the main story can, and pardon my french, fuck off to the center of the sun then die in the ensuing super nova.mecha3000 wrote:I get where all of you guys are coming from. Cool with me. If this was ever done in general, I would appreciate it, but I know it's not going to and it's probably for the best.ekrolo2 wrote:If it's an AU, sure do whatever with him. That actually happened in a What-if scenario in Raging Blast 1. And it was very entertaining.Skar wrote:I've always wanted to see Kid Trunks meet his Future counterpart.

If Future Trunks does return then it should be for a new threat and not Buu. If we get to fight Buu in Future Trunks universe then I don't want it to happen because it will likely be another rehash or repeat on what we saw before. Fans always hate on when we get repeats and rehashes of things from the past.

I really don't mine future trunks being back probably to see how his life has been since then doubt buu will be there due to all the fighters being dead and all but kinda hard to see what could he bring considering ssj2&3 are useless now.

Maybe a side story where we get to see what Trunk's timeline is like after the androids, a time of peace. I'd like to see what everyone is up to and how they rebuilt the earth and society.

The perfect way to bring Future Trunks back?
By NOT bringing him back... to the present timeline. Why does he HAVE to return to that past? We can have a mini-arc involving him in his future instead. Hell, even a spin-off. That's way more interesting than him running back to cry for help again.

"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super
Re: How Future Trunks can be in DB Super/New Majin Buu Saga?
Yeah, I pretty much changed my thoughts a bit in the comments above. I never said my option was the only way to bring him back though. There's a lot of things Toei can do with Future Trunks, but they just don't want to do them. Another option (which might be a more popular one) is the exploration of Trunks' timeline like you said and this time, we get to see the people who appeared in his future in the underground bunkers. In Trunks' timeline flashback scene, you can see other warriors with swords. How cool would it be if after beating Cell, Trunks decided to train them to be cautious about any possible future threat. Probably pointless though because I guess Trunks is the only needed hero in his timeline.fadeddreams5 wrote:The perfect way to bring Future Trunks back?

There's also a new option I came up with that I actually previously wanted, but forgot about. DB Online and Xenoverse's progression of Future Trunks into Time Patrol Trunks would definitely be a cool way to show that he's grown (in a timeskip sort of way). At the end of the day, this is the option I'd like the most because it addresses the possible consequences of Trunks' time travel and progresses that aspect of the story.

Well, Future Trunks is Xeno Trunks, so he's kinda busy these days.Hellspawn28 wrote: I think Future Trunks deserves to live a peaceful life.

As some users have posted, yes. Future Trunks deserves his rest after countless years of struggle & chaos in his time-line. The losses & subsequent drive/hope resulted in another catastrophore, which was Cell. All said & done, his part deserves a Happy Ending rather than being embroiled in ANOTHER crisis
To be honest. I like Future Trunks. Next to Goku, if not superior to Goku in every aspect. Both have boyish & cool look, majestic SSJ states (personally, Imma fan of his USSJ bulky form) & to-the-point attitude
Akira Toriyama's "treatment" of his character was insulting. Especially so in Cell Games, where ne was almost Krillin-tier as spectator to watch Goku/Gohan vs Perfect Cell
To say nothing of his "degradation" as fighter. The term "inexperienced brat" is often associated with F.Trunks & while it does ring true to an extent, its AT's writing which was the culprit imo
His intro scenes against Mecha Frieza, brief "fight" against SSJ Goku or the ass-whopping he gives to Semi-Perfect Cell & ASSJ Veggie (respectively as they plot a truce). It showed his "under-utilized" potential as no-nonsense character, next to Goku
With the way Supa's headed, they'll make him another worthless addition to Goku/Veggie cheer-leading bandwagon.
Which is far worse than the treatment he received in tail-end of Jinzoningen Arc. He deserves a much worthy comeback. Lets at least not ruin his legacy
Mirai no Torankusu will always remain an iconic figure primarily for his unique Future time-line trajectory which was never used b4 in DBZ. Also his great looks & relatable character (respect for elder relations as Goku-san, Kuririn-san or showing immense love & respect for his Oyaji).

1. F.Trunks: Time-line, tragic past & whole Cell event
2. Broly: Hard-hitting backstory & different level "badassery" never before seen in the franchise before
3. Bardock: Him bein Goku's father, yet a grey character with decent character development/growth in a very span of screen-time makes him an instantly likable character
My 2 cents

Well, Toei or Toriyama could recognize Time Patrol as canon. We're already dealing with inter-universe tournaments, maybe something will happen involving time and space and Trunks will have to step in.
