Dragon Ball Stories

Post by Cetra » Tue Jun 21, 2016 8:05 pm

I've been wondering how many people actually actively read Dragon Ball stories? If there is enough interest, I would post my story as well. At first I would like to know how many people are interested in such stories though and what they are normally about, what they think of them, et cetera.

Pretty much. Or whatever counts as a story.

I have a fanfic/comic (link in sig). I don't usually read others, but I have read a couple fancomics and manga. I would read yours if you posted it, and I certainly hope it doesn't have much (or better yet any) language. :P

I wish I would have the time for a doujinshi.

A good story to read? Savior of Demons. Another one? Honor Trip.

I've never written fan fiction but DB is one I'd definitely do. If anyone wants to shoot ideas around together or collaborate in any way I'd be down for that. As well as if the OP posts something I'd love to read it.

I might start to work on something myself soon.

I don't find interest in continuations when it comes to DB fics. Hence, my story is its own.

I feel bad, because not only has it been a long time since I've read a Dragon Ball fanfiction, my own current one is basically on semi-eternal hiatus until we stop getting new material again (so I can look at it all as a whole and decide exactly how I'm going to tackle things with it - even just the advent of Resurrection 'F' and Super Saiyan Blue kind of threw a wrench into it's original plans, even more so than Battle of Gods and Super Saiyan God had). Still have a different one planned just waiting in the wings to get started on, but free, uninterrupted time to write...well, maybe soon.

As far as reading goes though? I'm sure there's a bunch in the past that I read and enjoyed, but as things stand now I have two absolute favorites - GTR (Revised) by our very own Kaboom, and Journey's End by Yoksi, who is also a member here but I can't recall if that's their same username here or not. The former, if you didn't know, is basically a re-written version of GT, to improve upon it's base ideas and make it all feel all the more 'Dragon Ball', which definitely makes for a great read. The latter, is a take on the 'Goku and Vegeta's final battle' tidbit from the Dragon Ball Online backstory. It's really bittersweet, but manages to still feel like the series as well, definitely evoking some vibes (at least in me) of the final episodes of Z and GT.

So basically yeah, the kind of fanfic I'm most interested in is one where the characters feel the most like the actual characters. It's not that I'm not interested in AU's or things with completely original characters and not much (if any) of our established casts, I've certainly read enough doujins with that prospect or that sometimes miss the mark - but if I can find what I enjoy about the actual franchise in a fanfic, then that's the best feeling for me.

My fanfiction reading comes in fits and spurts. Its usually around summer time that I really get in the mood to write and read some. With Dragon Ball I usually go for AUs where a writer either changes one thing and butterfly effects from it into cool and interesting directions or just straight up does his or her own rendition of a new arc. Usually the two of them kind of blend together from my experience of reading and even writing.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

Mine is basically a Everything You Know About Dragon Ball is Wrong fanfic. Completely new ideas and roles, but still with the basic principles: Goku, Super Saiyan, Dragon Balls.

Everything I know is wrong? So, you're telling me Dende isn't secretly Batman?!

In all seriousness, this sounds interesting, hows it work?

Mine does involve Saiyans and all that mess. Albeit, in a completely different universe as opposed to the main universe written by Toriyama. Goku is only mentioned in the introduction, but he does not appear in my story.

Well, Goku has two sons. Gohan (based on his "Teen" appearance) and Goten (obviously his Majin Saga look). Vegeta has a daughter, Pan (her GT appearance). The Z-Fighters consist of Goku, Gohan, Goten, Pan, and Piccolo. Vegeta does his own thing. The main villain of Chapter 1 is Dr. Gero with his Cell Army (who look like Cell Jrs). The link to #1 is in my sig, and I'm working on #2 right now. Hopefully should be published today or tomorrow.

EDIT: I published #2!

Nice art.

Not to say that DB continuations are bad, just that I'd never do them.

Currently, I've got three DB projects on the backburner. One, a sequel to my Resurrection F fic (Vicious Gods Wrath which you can find here http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtop ... =6&t=33444).

A short comedy fic about Yamcha & Ox-King trying to cook the most delicious meal possible for Beerus so he doesn't destroy the world (esentially an AU of Battle of Gods, found here:http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtop ... =6&t=34215).

And an AU taking place in the Future timeline where the dead warriors train in the afterlife to take on the Androids while the survivors try to last in the new post apocalyptic Earth of theirs. Essentially the future timeline if people remembered about King Kai, his ability to call New Namek smashed together with the Boo Saga later on.
