"The Lost Episodes" :S
"The Lost Episodes" :S
I was watching the 1st FUNi trailer for "The Lost Episodes" today and I realised at the end when it says the date and all, that it said "The Blackstar DragonBall Saga". This name is so much better why didn't they just use this? :S
And another thing, I was on the www.dragonballgt.com today and was on the saga section and realised that, on this site at least, they left out the 'Giru's Checkered Past' episode. Is this the 1st episode of the Baby Saga, which replaces 'A Grand Problem', which is still on the GT site as the 1st ep or what? :S

From a publicity standpoint, using "The Lost Episodes" title makes it seem like these are episodes that were never aired in Japan, that they were just found recently and now you can be one of the first to enjoy them. That only works on the Dragon Ball fans who are five. It is believed that FUNimation wanted to jump right into the action episodes of Dragon Ball GT and skip the humor episodes.
Before DBGT was released stateside, I heard from multiple individuals online who said that the beginning of GT was horrible and that it ruined it for them. FUNimation may have heard about such things and wanted to skip over these episodes so that they would not lose much money over them. When fans heard that they could not get the first 16 episodes, demand for them grew and when FUNimation did finally release them, fans were happy. This is speculation on my part, I can't prove this.
As for 'Giru's Checkered Past', that is episode 16, the final episode of "The Lost Episodes". 'A Grand Problem' is not part of the 64 episode series, but instead a FUNimation-created episode for their first Dragon Ball GT DVD in '03 to help explain the events leading up to episode 17 of the series. Some sites label this episode as 16.5. You're better off not touching that episode if you can help it.

I just go with Black Star Dragon Ball Saga, as that's what it's usually referred to as, like the original Dragonball's Dragon Ball Saga.
I don't like the term 'Lost Episodes' either. They never went anywhere, FUNi just decided to start GT off with a bang in skipping some of the more comedic parts.

I really, really need to get back into the habit of posting.

I remember being so pissed when I bought the very first DBGT FUNimation DVD release, thinking it was the first episode and all. I went back to Suncoast the very next day and demanded my money back. And of course they didn't know what the hell I was talking about.
But back on topic, the "Blackstar Dragonballs Saga" does sound much better than the "Lost Episodes" that weren't even lost in the first place.
By the way, why didn't FUNimation just start from the beginning of GT anyway?
Anybody know?

To bring up hype and demand for the "lost episodes." It was a total marketing scheme, and ultimately brilliant because well, it worked.Grandmaster J wrote:I remember being so pissed when I bought the very first DBGT FUNimation DVD release, thinking it was the first episode and all. Actually, it was moreso to get to the 'meat' of the show, the action, which is ultimatly what drives sales for these types of Anime. Though introducing them as 'Lost Episodes" was a pretty good idea, because the typical Dragonball fan wouldn't know what the exact content of the episodes would be and buy it
