Future Trunks and Mai fusing with their alternate selves (despite fuse retcon)?

This might be a bit convoluted for them to do, but - Perhaps, Trunks and Mai can fuse with their alternate counterparts so it would solve the problem of two versions living in the same timeline. NO MECHA, THAT CAN'T HAPPEN BECAUSE BOTH FUSIONS (EVEN POTARA) HAVE A TIME LIMIT!!! I swear, damn that retcon (That Potara retcon gives one more reason for people to shoot down my ideas by telling me it could never work, damn). It would make perfect sense too because you could have Super Trunks defeat Dabura and then have Supreme Kai hook Trunks/Trunks and Mai/Mai with Potara earrings so they could both each fuse into one Trunks and one Mai (essentially becoming each one being instead of two separate selves). It would make life a whole lot easier to deal with for Future Trunks and Mai after all they've been through.'

The only reason this probably wouldn't happen anyway is because: 1. Trunks and Mai might not want to give their alternate selves the memories of the horror they faced AND 2. I'm not sure if there's extra Potara earrings. Besides, maybe Future Trunks' story isn't fully resolved yet based on what I've heard from other fans....

I have no idea about that. I just like the idea because it makes Trunks' life a bit easier after all the hell he's been through and it'd be unique for a character to fuse with their self. It would also make Trunks even stronger to protect his future.

This would be an awesome way to make the DB Fusions source material relevant to the overall DB franchise and at the same time: Make Bulma even more important as a character to the franchise. I wouldn't mind at all because if you think about it: The gods were surprised at the fact that a human (Bulma) could even make a time machine and in Resurrection 'F', Whis could only reverse time 3 minutes while Bulma created a time machine that could go back even further. Ironically, Bulma seems more capable than even the gods in many ways so it would make sense that she could create her own version of fusion that is permanent for humans INSTEAD of having a time limit like the Potara. To me, this would be the most realistic way at this point (since Potara has a time limit) to fuse Trunks and Mai with themselves.

So yeah, awesome idea dbgtFO!!! I hadn't even thought of Bulma in this situation, but this seems like the perfect solution and I'm sure Future Bulma wouldn't mind doing this for her alternate timeline son.

It was a plot hole to begin with in manga and the anime changed the circumstances of the Potara to bring understanding of why Goku and Vegeta defused in the Majin Boo arc as there was no concrete explanation given when it originally happened.

The correct word is reversion in this case since Goku and Vegeta defusing was never explained in the original manga. The bad air was mostly Goku's guess and it's never mentioned again. When Goku specifically asked Gowasu why it happened and Gowasu tells them why, it gives clarity to what happened. The retcon happened the moment Goku and Vegeta defused without any reason.

It's a retcon. It's a really shit retcon since fusion being permanent was a really cool concept. Elder Kaioshin seems like a damn fool now since everything he says gets retconned.
