Dream Animation Team for a Super episode/movie?

Post by iAnimationLover_ » Fri Jan 06, 2017 9:09 am

I know i've asked a couple questions about animation in this thread before. But i cant help myself

So again, who would be your dream team to animate a Dragon Ball Super Episode/Movie/Special?

Use this format as a reference: (You dont need to fill in the Director and Storyboard ones if you dont want to. And if you can, add why you want them in it :))

Director:

Storyboard:

Character Designer:

Animation Supervisor:

Key Animators:

-----------------------------------------------------
Here's an example:

Director:
To be honest, i dont know that many directors yet xD

Storyboard:
same as the director one

Character Designer

Katsuyoshi Nakatsuro Or that guy who animated for dragon ball and does dragon ball fan-art now (Sato?)

Animation Supervisor(s):

Masahiro Shimanuki, Shuichiro Manabe etc. etc.

Key Animators:

-Take'uchi Tetsuya (Love his character acting)

-Naotoshi Shida (I'm sure you already know why xD)

-Yuya Takahashi (Mini shida!)

-Naoki Tate (This man is awesome)

-Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru (I Love his work on Z)

-Ken Otsuka

-Futoshi Higashide (I'd like to see him animate something with at least 10 weeks of time)

-Jin Inaba (So far so good)

-Aizu Satsuki

I have more but i think you get the idea

You also cant use something like "Yamamuro, 80s-90s" I want present animators :>

I don't get why so many people dislike Yamamuro. His character design may not be good as it was but the guy is a good animator and his martial-arts knowledge surely helps him.

Believable dream team(its possible) - First thing, fire Yamamuro.

Series Director : Hatano Morio - One of Toei's finest directors. He is a Yama'uchi fanboy and his style quite resembles him. I like his style. He also has enough connections, so that'll be helpful too.

Series Composition : Tomioka Atsuhiro - Fast scriptwriter. Quality exposition and battle scenes writer as well.

Character designer/Chief Animation Director : Tate Naoki - Animation-friendly designs. Less complicated, but full of life. It'll be great.

Storyboard : It all depends on who the director and production assistants can get. But, if they can assemble something like this, it'll be good.

Hatano Morio, Chioka Kimitoshi, Karasawa Kazuya, Shida Naotoshi, Kaizawa Yukio, Kakudou Hiroyuki, Ootsuka Ken Kamatani Haruka(her combo with Watanabe would do wonders), Tanaka Yuta(best guy)

Except Shida and Ootsuka, all of them are good directors too and they'll handle their own storyboards.

Animation Director(s) : Watanabe Koudai, Hayashi Yuuki, Oonishi Ryou, Yashima Yoshitaka(fast guy) Karasawa Yuuichi, Tate Naoki(if needed), Takahashi Yuya

Key Animator(s) : Watanabe Koudai, Hayashi Yuuki ,Oonishi Ryou, Shida Naotoshi, Takahashi Yuya, Ota Kazuhiro, Kuroyanagi Kenji, Yashima Yoshitaka(fast guy) Ootsuka Ken

I can go on. Give them at least a year of production time and I guarantee this team will most likely produce wonderful results and Dragon Ball will no longer be shit.

Not possible dream team

Series Director : Ryoochimo - Great animator turned director. Actually, webgen animator turned director. His connections will get us abundant webgen talent cause of his contacts.

Series composition : Tomioka would be alright. I guess.

Character Designer/ Chief Animation Director : Ryoochimo - Lovely stuff. Animation-friendly. A necessity for good animation. His designs have little to no linework at times which I love.

Storyboard : Since Chimo is SD, it'll unquestionably have great directors. Some of them would be:-

Ryoochimo, Yamashita Shingo(of course), Kobayashi Hiroshi, Matsumoto Norio, Natsume Shingo, Matsuyama Masahiko

Animation Director(s) : Yamashita Shingo, Fujisawa Ken'ichi, Nakayama Ryu(action animation director) Kawano Tatsuro, Kameda Yoshimichi, Oda Gosei

Key Animator(s) : Fujisawa Ken'ichi, Yamashita Shingo, Matsumoto Norio, Kameda Yoshimichi, Oda Gosei Fujii Shingo, Nakayama Ryu, Arai Kazuto, Kobayashi Naoki

There are more talents I'm forgetting. If someone produces this it'll be great. But, this is too good to be true. The sakuga fest would be uncontrollable.

I would let Studio Bones handle the production. Keep in mind, most of them are freelancers and studio has nothing to do with quality. The Bones environment would be just good to work at.

His outdated approach isn't helping the already not-so- good franchise in the visual department. He may know all the martial arts, but like I've always said when people say Yamamuro is knowledgeable about martial arts and stuff what good is it for, if he can't even move the camera and makes everything look stiff and there's no dynamic perspective?

His animation itself nowadays is pretty robotic. But i dont hate him, i just dislike it. i do enjoy what he did for dragon ball/Z and its movies, though, those were awesome

His supervising though.. His supervising makes it as if 1 person animated the whole thing, its not really nice to the animators working under him

Toei Animation In-House Only:

Storyboard & Direction: Kamatani Haruka: Kamatani excels at both action and drama. I would love to see her tackle a storyline with a dramatic edge, perhaps a retelling of the Future Trunks arc? Be on the look out for awesome camera angles and an excellent understanding of lighting and post-processing.
Character Design & Animation Supervision: Hayashi Yuuki: The rising star of Toei Animation's young talents. Hayashi's layouts are personal and dynamic, but he's also capable of lovingly crafted action and character animation in those layouts. He's the perfect fit for Kamatani.
Key Animation: Hayashi Yuuki, Oonishi Ryou, Tate Naoki, Watanabe Koudai, Hamano Yuu'ichi, Shida Naotoshi, Urata Yukihiro: These are just a few names I could think of. If we're going to go with Kamatani, a drama specialist, then we'll need animators like Hayashi, Oonishi and Tate, who excel at character animation. Watanabe and the others excel mostly at action animation, but everyone involved is good enough to do either.

Freelancer Staff:

Storyboard, Direction & Animation Supervision: Wakabayashi Atsushi: The Master. No animator would re-invigorate Dragon Ball like Wakabayashi Atsushi could and with his storyboarding and his animator connections the production would be chalk full of talent.
Key Animation: Wakabayashi Atsushi, Matsumoto Norio (a staple in Wakabayashi's episodes), Inoue Atsuko (the woman Wakabayashi trusts with his character animation-heavy scenes), Kutsuna Ken'ichi, Oda Gosei, Fujisawa Ken'ichi, et cetera.

Sorry for the ignorant question, but I'm wondering: Where the hell has Nakatsuru gone? I think just bringing him on board would make Super a lot better.
Why don't they just bring him back along with the other guys who worked on Z?

After working on episode 1 of Super, he worked on the first episode of One-Punch Man, then the OP of Twin Star Exorcists. His most recent credit is on Toei's latest film 'Pop in Q'.
emperior wrote:Why don't they just bring him back along with the other guys who worked on Z?
Well, you've got Tate, Shimanuki, and Shida from back on Z. We've had Yamamuro step in in places. Taiichiro Ohara popped up, as did Yoko Iizuka.

Most of Z's best animators are working on bigger and better things. Naoki Miyahara was the director of Pop in Q, for example. Toshiyuki Kanno's all over the place as a supervisor and animator. Kazuya Hisada's a huge name on One Piece.

Super's not exactly the most desirable project to be on for these people, either. For one, you've people like Masaki Sato saying what a lot of people are thinking, "This isn't the Dragon Ball I once knew", and if we're well aware of Super's hellish production environment, folks in the industry sure are, too.

It's not as simple as, "Hey, come back!". Most people have moved on. And of course, there's the ever-looming issue of, "Well, if the talents that are on Super can hardly produce anything worthwhile in the time they're given, what makes you think anyone else is going to be able to maximise their ability, too?"

That's not a dig at anyone in particular, it's just that fixing the core of Super is far more important than piling staff on top of it. Sure, it'd help, but it's a band-aid, rather than a real fix.

Ha, I totally forgot about Ide. There's also Yoichi Onishi if we wanna get down to people who had brief stints on the series back in the day. Though he's off on Tiger Mask W now.

Not only are his designs not good, his animation is far below average. He hasn't successfully conveyed his martial arts knowledge in his animation for a long time. His only good trait is apply plenty of accurate detail in still or minimalist cuts. When we compare him to most other animators, he doesn't hold up. Even those with uglier styles than him are usually able to convey what they need to more efficiently. That's not even mentioning the fact that there are so many animators who are better than him in every single aspect.

Unfortunately, I don't know enough names atm to give anything other than the key animators, I'll keep this bookmarked until I do and give a complete list then.

We all know the reason for this hellish production was because they started production on dbs late. Why didnt they start producing dbs way before kai ended?

They had no plans for a series at that point. I'm sure if a weekly serialization was their intent from the start, they would have begun production earlier.

The character designer would be Masaki Sato, incredibly nostalgic and great, see episode 64 of DBZ to get a grasp on his great style.
