Planet Vegeta's Destruction

Post by DaemonCorps » Fri Jun 30, 2006 2:42 pm

Well, we should all know by now that Planet Vegeta was blown up by Freeza, but the biggie here is... was its destruction more than a spur of the moment thing?

In Viz DBZ mnga 9 (tankoubon 25), page 107, Freeza says, "When I attacked the Saiyan planet and fought the king, I won without the need to transform." Now, when in the Bardock Special did Freeza actually land on the planet?

If we were to take the Bardock Special as canon, which it kinda is, then the only way I can see the death of King Vegeta being incorproated into this is by having Freeza fight him while Bardock was off somewhere else. Also note that we're talking about a planet here, meaning that it is plausible to believe that King Vegeta's HQ is far off from the little pub that Bardock went into when he tried to warn everyone of Freeza.

So, here's how I see Planet Vegeta's destruction:
- Vegeta was sent to a planet to exterminate its inhabitants
- Understanding that the Saiyans are getting stronger, Freeza sends some of his henchmen to take care of the stronger Saiyans, while he goes to Planet Vegeta to take care of the King himself
- Bardock is called to planet Meet (not so sure if that's what it's called in the JP script) and is attacked by Freeza's henchmen. He also discovers that his entire squad was killed.
- Back on Planet Vegeta, Freeza kills the king with ease as well as anyone else who tried to fight him. Afterwards, he goes back to his ship to destroy the entire planet.
- After getting back to Vegeta, Bardock tries to warn everyone of Freeza's plans. Since nobody beleives him, he decides to take care of things himself and heads straight to Freeza's ship.
- Freeza is about to destroy the planet when he finds that Bardock is heading for him. So, he sends more of his lackeys to try and kill him. Seeing that Bardock still hasn't been killed, Freeza decides to destroy the planet, as well as Bardock and some of his own lackeys all at once.

Now, there may be some holes in there, but it's the best I've got so far. You may say, "How come the people near the King didn't try and warn the rest of the planet?". Well, note that the Saiyans are a fighting race, and would have preferred to fight Freeza (and die) than try to warn their own people.

Hmm... yeah, that's my explanation for how Freeza could have killed the king and destroy the planet. Feel free to post your thoughts (duh), but if you're gonna directly respond to something I said, then at least have the decency to read my entire post. :D

Well...a filler depicts King Vegeta and his elites attacking Freeza on his ship right before Freeza blows up the planet...but hey, who likes Filler anyway?

I really never thought about all this that much, so I'll have to get back to you a bit later.

The anime shows a flashback to Freeza heading for Planet Vegeta. King Vegeta goes to Freeza's ship to stop him and take back Prince Vegeta in the process. The "Battle" (All two seconds of it) took place on board Freeza's ship. He killed the King and his royal guard, then decided that he would fry the whole planet in case others tried to rise up against him.

The dub, back in its days of softening things up had them try to take back the prince. In the original the King was just tired of Frieza's attitude and treating them like trash. He even declared to him that he was going to kill him and rule the universe himself.

I've always figured that King Vegeta went up to Freeza's ship (as shown in the filler flashback) to challenge Freeza there, before he could get to the planet. Didn't want to risk him blowing it up cause he was losing, I suppose...

<Kaboom> I'm just glad that he now sounds more like Invader Zim than Rita Repulsa
<Xyex> Original Freeza never sounded like a chick to me.
<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.

Like trying to get rid of a swarm of bees that's what Frieza felt like.
