Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.
So I feel like I am at the stage where I can more or less discuss Nozawa and her many portrayals, in the main series anyway I haven't heard her Bardock, Turles or SS4 Goku yet but I am curious to know what people's favourite role of hers has been.
Her adult Goku is pretty good even when I didn't like her I still complemented her screams as adult Goku and to this day that is probably still may favourite aspect about her portrayal as Goku that aswell as her goofy Goku too, (and luckily Sean Schemmel has both of those aspects pretty down too so I am more than happy about sub and dub Goku!). Her Goten is cute it's fine for what the character is. Her kid Gohan again was fine no real complaints but I am not a huge fan of her adult Gohan at all, granted I have only seen Super and parts of Z in JPN but yeah. Her Black was actually a pretty big surprise to me actually, I know most of the JPN Ver fans weren't worried at all but yeah she completely owned that role just everything about that performance was top notch and it is kind of unfair for people to follow that performance in all these various dubs of Super.
But finally comes my favourite portrayal of hers hands down is Kid Goku from OG DB, I was expecting her to sound something like Goten but man was I way wrong her kid Goku is absolutely amazing to the point I actually wanted Goku to be in every scene and would be hotly anticipating the next ones he is in, never felt like that before watching subbed DB the only time I felt like that in dubbed DB was when Ayres was Freeza but yeah totally blown away by that was pretty unexpected I have watched like 12 eps of OG DB in JPN so far can't wait to watch the rest of it!
Gohan's my pick without a second thought. In my opinion, she did the perfect voice for my favorite character. The transition between ages is cool and I never for a second doubted that was the character.

How is her adult Gohan from Super compared to Z? I have seen Buu Z in JPN from the Vegetto onwards so I am just wondering cuz I haven't liked what I have heard in Super so far.

Yeah, I think they're a bit different. I mean, the voice still has the youthful tone to it, but it's more energetic and lively. The screams are much stronger and sound like they're not as much of strain on her as they are now.
To be honest, I think watching Z from the start after you finish your DB watch is the best way to experience it instead of watching parts. The transitioning from his voice as a toddler in the Saiyan arc into his age of adolescence in the Boo arc has a certain quality and flow when you're watching it in order.
I think it's the same thing with Goku too. I personally don't think watching it in parts gives ya the same impression.

Just my two cents.
Yeah you are probably right but looking at Z it seems pretty daunting and I am at that point in life where time is not as free as it once was... but ultimately there is no rush if it takes several years it takes several years I suppose!
I've noticed a lot of fans unfamiliar with the Japanese version who love her Goku Black portrayal but still have issues with her normal Goku.
I suggest anyone who isn't familiar with her earlier performances to go back to the original Z recording, where she seems to use a lower register for Goku on average than she does in Super. (I'm not sure what led to the subtle change; vocal comfort perhaps?) He obviously doesn't sound like any kind of realistic adult man, but it's genuinely shocking most of the time to remind yourself that it's a woman behind the voice.
On topic, Goku by a longshot. Huge range on that character. It's crazy how much she has to pitch herself up or down for long stretches (from child Goku to Super Saiyan 4), but she always manages to sound completely smooth and actually act on top of it.

Z Gokû specifically. I first heard her in the Buu arc and was really impressed. She's still good in Super, but her prime was incredible. She's smoother in Z and had more base in her casual speaking voice for Gokû.
So 90's Nozawa Adult Gokû is my answer.
Gokû Black is a close second though. He was especially entertaining to listen to before we knew his true identity.
Definitely Goku, especially Kid Goku. She's fine with all of the other roles (though in all honesty, ever since I saw someone bring it up, I'd really have preferred Shigeru Chiba as Bardock), but her work as the lead character in particular is just stellar. About the only major misstep I can think of in regards to Goku is when they had her doing sound effects for the Golden Oozaru in GT. That was...bizarre...
Coming in second would definitely be Goku Black, just for how different it is in comparison to all other time she's played a 'Son family member'. I mean, I'm sure there's some shades of Turles in there, but Black still comes off as his own beast, and it's an amazing beast to listen to.

Nothing beats Nozawa's performances as Goku during Z era of Dragon Ball. That was Nozawa at her prime. But her performance was Goku Black was just spectacular, too.

I still haven’t lived down going, “Who the heck is Tao Pai-pai?” that one time I was talking with Ei’ichiro Oda-kun. But the fact that there are still people reading the series after all this time… All I can say is; “thank you.” Really, that’s all.

Kid Goku is my personal favorite from Nozawa. No other voice actor I've heard so perfectly captures both the adorable innocence and warrior-esque resolve of the character like Nozawa. I believe every dramatic and humorous scene she's performed with the character, and most importantly, I believe that I'm listening to a child. Superbly done.
I'd imagine like most people who were introduced to Z through a dub, the transition from the dub Goku of the time to Nozawa was rough, but after watching Dragon Ball (Japanese) and noticing the distinct vocal changes between the different ages of the character, as well as the consistently great acting and characterization, I definitely feel that Nozawa is the perfect voice actor for the adult role as well.
Except Goten which I didn't care for cause Goten is a garbage character I like all her performances. Nozawa Masako's performance is part of the reason why Gokuu is my favorite character. She just captures Gokuu both kid and adult in a way nobody can. As mentioned already her range is superb.
I also like her Bardock a lot. The tone that she voiced the character with fit his personality. And, of course Gokuu Black which was again incredible.
Bardock and Goku Black. Even though she voices lots of characters, she manages to deliver to the father of the protagonist a unique portrayal, show knows he isn't a villain but she knows that Bardock needs to be more "savage" (brutal edge in Toriyama's own words) than Goku, and she nails it!
Masako Nozawa as villain is fantastic, I always liked her Turles but Goku Black is another league. Can't even describe her talent playing him.
I loved her performance as Black.
Gohan voice is also good and cute even now when he doesn't sounds like Goku (mostly when screaming or making attacks)...

These days people start throwing the words "filler" and "silce of life" everytime characters aren't punching each other. No matter if something is moving the plot or there's character exposition.
Imagine if DB started these days. It would go like this:
"hey, what's happening in Dragon Ball today?"
"Goku wants Mutenroshi to train him, so he's bringing him some chicks now."
"oh i see, just slice of life filler then. skippable. "
All of them with the expection of goten, because he is a shit tier character.nozawa was amazing in DB and DBZ in the 90s and I love her performance as kid and adult goku, bardock and gohan. And I also loved her performance as Goku black
Goku black for sure. I'm a dub fan, but I don't think the dub will be able to beat this.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.
Goku Black. I doubt any dub will ever be able to top it.
But I don't know about her performance as Goku in DBZ, someone mind explain me why she was so better in Z than she is in Kai and Super?
