He seems to have forgotten all about it.

Goku didn't forget about his Grandpa, he would never... Toriyama did.

He reenacted his fight with Gohan while he was at Baba's to pick up Freeza.

It's hard to say who might have come up with that idea, considering it's based entirely in animation and would be summed up in the script as "Goku trains for a bit".

I agree that Goku has basically forgotten about the Four Star Ball, practically since Gohan dropped his hat when bursting out of Raditz's pod. Any other references seems to be limited to just promotional artwork.

Only reason he cared about it was because he thought his grandpa was inside it

Disagree, in the dub at least Goku also states numerous times that the Four-Star Ball is the only thing left for him to remember his grandpa by. I think it'd safe to say that he didn't believe his grandpa was in the ball by the end of the Pilaf arc, and yet he goes out of his way to catch it much later at the end of the RRA arc.

I do think Goku still believed his Grandpa was in the ball, and what's worse, I think there's reason to believe he was RIGHT. After all, the four star ball saved his life from Tao...

If we go by recent productions, like Super, then i don't remember anything like that. Too bad.

If we go by timeline and count GT, then he didn't want to give 4-star ball to Omega Shenron and even ate it to prevent him from getting it.
In TV special "A Hero's Legacy" he also mentioned to Goku Jr. that he got the 4-star ball from his grandpa.
