Meeting the ex-DBZ actors

Post by Super Sonic » Sun Apr 25, 2004 3:51 pm

Sakura Con was nice. I met both Mr. McNeil and Mr. Dobson yesterday. Mr. McNeil first came out to the line and was badmouthing Canadiens for a little bit before we figured out it was him. They seem like nice guys. Mr. Dobson signed my program and was mentioning how one of his brothers does Skeletor and said when he called someone up once he said he was Cobra Commander and did his Cobra Commander voice. Mr. McNeil signed my copy of vol. 3 of Ranma and did his Principal Kuno voice while doing it. After taking a picture with him, I asked if he could do his Wolverine voice and he did so saying, "All right bub. Don't mess with Wolverine or I'll have to go Canadien on your ass!" I was just in awe. Has anyone else while meeting a voice actor ask them to do one of their characters?

Ah man! That rocks! You're so lucky! I would of done the same and asked him to do Wolverine and Piccolo. Ha, those guys are hilarious. I find almost all voice actors have a great sense of humour. Damn, you're so lucky!

That is cool, but two things:

1/ Wasn't Cobra Commander done by the guy who was also Starscream? Chris Latta, or something? Who is now dead?

2/ "Canadian".
Romana: "I don't think we should interfere."
Doctor: "Interfere? Of course we should interfere! Always do what you're best at, that's what I say."

Mr. Dobson did Cobra Commander on the Spy Troops movie and new commercials, where Mr. McNeil did Destro. He did his Cobra Commander voice from there.

Ahh. Cool.

Hang on, was Dobson also Terrosaur on Beast Wars?

I'm pretty certain Paul Dobson didn't do Terrosaur, I know that he did do Tankor in Beast Machines. And SpiritBomb, what do mean get McNeil to do Piccolo and Wolverine? They sound practically the same! :P

They sound the same but there are some differences that you can notice between them. Like how Chuck Huber's Hiei and #17 sound similar, but there are small noticable differences between them.

If I met a VA, I would ask them to do a voice they don't do. Then I would/..

Surely it's not that hard for you to meet a VA? There must be loads milling around downstairs, practising their screaming and grunting at each other.

Hey, a friend of mine met McNeil like 3 years ago in the hotel bar during AnimeNorth and she didn't even know who he was at the time! She figured he was somebody though because he had about a hundred annoying fangirls hovering around him.(Wish I would've been there, it would have been a great bloodbath! )

Heh, they do sound the same. Then probably just Piccolo so he would do some funny thing to it! Anywhoya, I hope to meet a voice actor one day...well, maybe, and then I would get an autograph and offer to kill otaku snobs that are bothering them...they would probably take me up on that offer.

Yup, I would LOVE to see that. Then I would probably jump in myself!

I was excited to hear that Scott McNeil was coming to SakuraCon, as he is my favorite English voice actor, but I didn't get to meet him because of laziness :P Hey, when you're up til 3AM playing DDR, Pop'n'Music, and Mario Kart Double Dash, it's hard to get up and meet voice actors in the morning. Now, if it had been both Scott McNeil AND Brian Drummond, maybe I would have been able to drag myself out of bed

Also Mr. McNeil revealed that he indeed was the physical actor for the masked Scooby Doo 2 villain.
