Dragon Ball titles

Should titles like Kaiou, Kami, Muten Roushi, Daishinkan, etc be left unaltered or should we be using English adaptations/translations instead?

Just use your own preference, Master Roshi or Muten Roushi, it's obvious who is being referred to.

Kaiou and King Kai are essentially the same thing or at least o or ou means King. Pretty sure Muten Roshi is his name. I understand Kami Sennin or Turtle Hermit but afaik Muten Roshi is suppose to be his actual name on his government id and everything.

I think something is lost in translation when Kami’s name is left as is. Like he’s suppose to be God that people pray to. The “What the fuck’s a Kami?” joke comes to mind. And the Funimation dubs never could seem to agree if Kami is his real name or merely his title.

It all really depends on each individual name and also the context. Some terms may have direct equivalents in English and others may not. Some pieces of dialogue may be better suited for English-translated forms while others may call for the unaltered forms. You just have to use your best judgment while utilizing whatever knowledge of Japanese you may or may not have in order to reach these decisions.

界(kai) means "world" and 王(ou) means "king", so 界王/Kaiō essentially means "Lord of the Worlds" or "Realm King".

老師(Rōshi) is a title meaning "teacher" or "master".

I personally use tittles untranslated; the only ones I'm satisfied with are Turttle Sennin, Crane Sennin, Diviner Baba and Oldest Elder, but generally I just leave those untranslated too; Hakaishin, Kaiōshin and Daimaō I may translate for descriptive purposes. Dai, Ō, Ma, Jin, Shin and Kai are recurrent, so are really easy to pick up if you just leave them (and especially if you leave them all).

This guy has the right idea, just use whatever you like to use. As for me personally I dont fall into either camp strictly, mine position is a mangled step child middle ground where i'll use original names along with Funi's english names.

For example, character names. I'll usually use Tien instead of Tenshinhan, but i'll use Chaozu instead of Chiaotzu, just because I can type Chaozu easier without second guessing if I spelt it right first try. Sometimes I can't make up my mind, so weather i'd use Freeza or Frieza is dependent on what side of the bed I woke up on in the morning.

For techniques/specific moves it's also just a mix. I'll mostly use Japanese names, but for some moves i'll use the English names out of habit because it's just how i've always known them. Say, Wolf Fang Fist, Solar Flare, and Spirit Bomb.
First time Dragon Ball fan as of March 2020. Still learning the ropes. Nothing much else to say,
