Will we see a GT Remastered release?

Post by Vegetasan » Sun Dec 17, 2006 9:22 pm

As everyone knows we are about to have a DBZ Remastered release courtesy of Funimation, which I'm sure will take a very long time for each saga to hit the store shelves... But once that process is finally completed, do you guys think we'll see the same thing done for GT?

I'd love to have it happen because for this series, unlike DBZ, I actually prefer the original japanese music (not so for DBZ since Faulconer is a wonderful composer in my mind, but that's beside the point). It would be cool to have the option of playing the dub voices with the original music like they are doing for the DBZ releases. To me, the music is one of the best things about GT, the theme "Dan Dan" (though I can't understand a single word of it) is a great song nonetheless. Really uplifting and captures the wonder and adventure of the Dragonball universe. But with the current GT releases, the option isn't available to mix the dub voices with that particular music, which is unfortunate.

So I'm calling for a GT remastered release... Who's with me??? :D

I doubt we'll see one. For one, the show wasn't handled in a fucked up way as DBZ. There are box sets (That are actually easy to find), the video and audio quality isn't that all bad, and it's consistent.

As an unofficial spokesperson for FUNi, I feel that I have to release this statement here. To answer your question Vegetasan, probably. It all depends on how much they make on Z. Then again, would they pull that lost episode crap again?

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

The very fact they pulled that "lost episode crap" would tell me that a GT rerelease could be on the cards, although it would all depend on whether FUNimation saw any financial merit in doing so, because given the quality of GT as a show it may not sell at all well in a new release. (I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole).

I don't see why they wouldn't release it. Hopefully they release it in one box, or two at most.

I see it like this...

1) If they were/are just going to be releasing the English equivilent to the Dragon Box sets, then yeah I'd say they're gonna do it, as they did it in Japan.

2) If they want to make up for the mistake they made with the lost eps, or make it more consistent, then again yeah I'd say they're gonna do it.

However if there plans don't invovle either of those two reasons, then they probaly won't.

Funimation will milk the property until our grand kids have grand kids.

I could see maybe a few years from now once they're finished re-releasing Dragonball Z, Funimation will go back and release a "Perfect GT boxset". Probably the entire series packed in slim DVD cases and worth a bundle, but with "remastered" footage and and the option to switch music tracks like they're doing with DBZ. I could see them making it a limited release too.
