Re: Is censorship still needed to keep Dragon Ball Relevant to younger people?
Gerard Jones was responsible for the "rewriting" ("punching-up", "smoothing", etc.) of the dialog in Viz's Dragon Ball manga releases upon their original release. He was not the translator. He was not a visual editor. He was not a project manager. I talked a bit about that process with Jason Thompson on Episode #0403 of our podcast (which, for what it's worth, was recorded before Jones was arrested and this all came out).
The reason his credit is still present in later re-releases and adaptations like the chapter books is because of his rewriting from that time that these later items either still directly have or are based on.

Oh goody, in addition to him being a pedo he’s the reason we got lines like “Hey bro wuzzup?!” and swee trot candy and Piccolo talking like he thinks he’s performing Shakespeare at the park.VegettoEX wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 12:19 pm Gerard Jones was responsible for the "rewriting" ("punching-up", "smoothing", etc.) of the dialog in Viz's Dragon Ball manga releases upon their original release. I mean. Yes? There's a pretty fucking big difference between those two things.

We need a sarcasm punctuation mark.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Oh I very much agree. Honestly I'm better at picking up sarcasm in text then in real life which leaves me astonished when so many people on this board fail to notice it - and are native speakers at that! Are context clues not enough?!

Ableism sucks, please understand that not everyone can pick up on these things, whether via text or verbally.

It's not even just about ableism, even typical people can't hear voice inflections in text, thus are not likely to easily detect sarcasm.
great news, there is such a thingWe need a sarcasm punctuation mark.
bad news, it never caught on
