Gohan in GT?

Ok, I was watching episode two of GT and noticed something I hadn't before- Gohan says he will search for the Dragonballs with Goku(who was just chibi-ized). Yet in the next episode, Goten, Trunks and Goku are set to search. So, why did Gohan back out? Did Videl threaten him? Or is it a plot hole?

Vegeta catches Trunks sneaking out from work and makes him and Goten go since they both have been neglecting their training. Goten points out he thought Gohan was going to go but Vegeta replys telling him that he coviced Gohan to stay.

Anyway... yeah, Vegeta thought Goten was a lazy bum, so he made him go instead of Gohan.

Too bad Pan snuck aboard. Trunks got more screen-time than Goten in Z (because of Mirai Trunks), and he could have had the chance to catch up to him in GT... And the trip could've toughened him up a bit...

I would have prefered Uub to go, at least then he'd have beaten someone other than Saibamen. Seriously the guy has the power of Majin Buu and gets his butt handed to him by all three major villians.

That seems to correspond to Meri's list of characters with wasted potential... which I completely agree with. ^^.

Gohan and Goten were both noticeably snuffed in GT... and I'm sure I'm not the only one that expresses discontent.

Uub should have done something besides... umm... not win at all ever...
He was built up to be the ultimate Human, but never won a single fight outside of the normals in the tournaments...
He should be in like, a movie or something...

*wonders where to find this GT fanfic which has captured my interest*.

Of the two, I think Piccolo in GT was played the best... Vegeta's role in GT was basically "I'm stronger than everyone else, so if Goku isn't fighting, I'll blow stuff up!". Which is sad.

Well, we can see both in Toriyama's work and following it pressure from outside influences.

Time and time again Toriyama tried to shift the main focus away from Goku, but always pressure overcame that and he was once again brought to the center. Raditz scouter shows us Gohan, with no training, surpassing his father. After Freeza, Goku "dies" passing the torch on. He comes back. Again, Gohan is stronger than Goku when it comes to Cell, and Toriyama finally kills of Goku, and seemingly for good, once and for all putting Gohan in the front. Then when its seemingly set with Gohan as the lead with the Saiyaman mini arc , Goku comes back for a day, teaching the younger kids the Fusion dance while Gohan gets powered up to Mystic status. But then, again, Goku is given life again, and finally beats Buu. Then when Uub is old enough, Goku trains him to be the next generations defender. Which doesn't pan out.

This is just the pressure of the people in charge. The same happens in everything. And when it came to GT, whether there was pressure or not, Trunks was more popular than Gohan, and I don't really know the reasoning for Pan. . . And of course, ignoring all the times Goku tries to retire, he is again given the lead.

I think instead of Goten/Pan and Trunks, Vegeta and Bra should've go with! Vegeta could provide a lot of sarcastic comments, and Bra could kinda be like Bulma (of course, she isn't flat in my version) so she seduces all men and Goku makes more deals with Roshi-like characters, and Vegeta getting extremely pissed off because of this all happening to his little girl.

Wouldn't that be hilarious? (really wants Bra and Vegeta to have a bigger role in GT)

Bra didn't do... anything... at all... besides sit on the sidelines in Z, and go shopping in GT... and give her power to the body snatcher clone fella... Therefore, her doing anything that isn't worse than what Bolma did in DB is a plus...

How to solve the "Goku's the hero but we want it to be something better than GT" problem:

Have Goku fight Vegeta over something while someone else saves the day...

I really wanted Uub to go too... I mean Gohan got his glory, Uub was the new thing, Trunks is old news! It would've been more interesting because Pan and Uub were totally hinted at being the new generation of protectors because Goten and Trunks had other things to think about.

Er and a bit off topic, but speaking of Uub, absorbing Buu, wouldn't he be almost immortally strong. So...so..much potential... *curses GT and searches for fanfic*

He'd be about Super Buu strength if Uub had unlocked all of his Kid Buu power before fusing.

I thought it was fine the way it was. GT was more of an "adventure", not an action series (well, in the beginning anyway). The main cast worked as the typical adventure formula: The smart one (Trunks), the strong one (Goku), and the loud one (Pan) (those rolls may be hard to label). With Goten in the main crew, they would almost have to include fusion which would have a character stronger than Goku, plus it would make viewers question Gohan's decrease in power and so on...
As for the other characters, I believe they should've had more time to shine. All in all, Uub had no "15-minutes". I was actually writing a small GT fanfic and this thread is helping to revive that project; a project that makes GT stand for something besides "Goku's Time" (corny, but true).

Well, the point is to give Buu time in the spotlight before he merges with Uub, who will also get more time.

*Sigh* If you remember Bra said it looked stupid so Vegeta shaves it off. I quite liked his mustache its what GT did to the rest of his hair that bothered me.
