The "blue water" dragonball dub
Anyone know anything more about it than I do? There are clips on youtube, just search "dragonball blue water"
[quote="Brakus"]For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". The Blue Water dub is the version of DragonBall and GT that I got on TV (I live in Ontario, Canada). I only got to watch each series one time through though, and that was a few years ago. I don't remember too much.
I was surprised that they left the original background music in. The intro music was changed, though. DragonBall had a completely different song and GT had the instrumental part of the original music, but with new english lyrics.
As far as censoring on the TV broadcasts went, I think the violence went untouched. This was especially noticeable in Goku's fight with Piccolo at the tournament.

It seems to be the 1st episode which is deffently not from the Funimation dub, Goku's voice sounds a bit odd aswell.

Yeah we had that Dub here in the UK on Toonami though I only watched 1 episode because it was more edited than the original "Saga of Goku" though looking at that clip on youtube it didn't seem to bad (They completely cut out the fishing part on UK Toonami).
It sounds like the dub of GT we had only difference is that the opening is terrible.

Yeah, the UK and Canada got the Blue Water DB and DBGT Dubs which I prefer whole-heartedly to funimation's. Sure, the production values aren't there - but what you're getting is the original format, music and a direct translation of the Japanese script. What more could you want?

Well, so far I like the script. No "totally radical" Bulma! Sweet!

I saw only a few episodes of the Blue Water DragonBall GT dub. I thought it was all right. It seemed to be better than FUNimations version. What impressed me most about it was, as mentioned above, it retained the original japanese music, excluding an english version of Dan Dan as the Intro. This was a whole lot better than the shitty rap at the beginning of FUNimations version. It seemed to say "Aw Yeah Nigga, It's Dragonball GT time!" Where the Blue Water version seemed to at least capture some what of the same feel as the Japanese version.
hahaha I can actually hear that in my mind. While it's cool that they kept the music the same the lyrics to the song were pretty lame so that ruined it in my opinion.the original ero-sennin wrote:I saw only a few episodes of the Blue Water DragonBall GT dub. A decent voice cast?Blade wrote:Yeah, the UK and Canada got the Blue Water DB and DBGT Dubs which I prefer whole-heartedly to funimation's. Ocean was originally supposed to dub this, but due to corporate greed and some idiotic decisions, the voicing of DBGT and DB was farmed out to Calgary instead of Vancouver; Blue Water being the "less talented" division of Ocean. This is why Blue Water dubbed these two series and, I'm sorry, original music and decent scripts don't make up for bad voice acting. As a result of this, watching these series all the way through would be one hell of a painful experience, one which I couldn't bring myself to do.
Conversely, if Ocean's Vancouver cast had dubbed these series as originally intended, they would've been perfect.

I do happen to like their script, and Goku's voice (Sai Saici for you G-Gundam fans), but the rest is kinda :/.

Even though Blue Water is Ocean's lesser I can say that I've enjoyed G and Zeta Gundam and Zoids dubbed by them. However they're doing there usual "not trying as hard as they could" act IMO.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.
