Censorship Double Standards
I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but does Cartoon Network have a wierd double standard on Dragon Ball when it comes to censoring? For example, they showed Little Goku and Little Krillin's naked butts, but they cut out the scenes with Ranfan in her bra and panties. I don't understand this, since she was actually wearing more clothes than either of them. Any thoughts?

The answer is actually quite simple, but it is a doube standard. Showing a kids naked butt is apparently acceptable because some people think it's cute and innocent, while Ranfan stripping down was entirely sexual in nature. Frankly, imagine watching Dragon Ball with your parents when one of the female characters starts doing a strip tease. See the difference?

He is indeed right. That's why you can see all the little baby diaper commercials on NBC or whatever with little nekkid kids running around but the fact is a sexy victoria secret commercial would probably never air right after thatDeus ex Machina wrote:The answer is actually quite simple, but it is a doube standard. Yes, you're illustrating your point right now! I wouldn't use that image in a "Why I like Dragonball" presentation, you know? Can you imagine?Josh wrote:(Heh, and nice avatar to go with your post)

Well, for some reason GT DID make Bra physically in her late teens. No matter how you look at it (she was 3 at end of Z or 5) she should still be ten at most during GT.SDHero wrote:"Well, one of the characters, named Bra, if she were older and had what Dave Chapelle refers to as 'great New York boobs', would be totally hot."

Er, it's not a double standard at all, as the two situations are completely different.Deus ex Machina wrote:The answer is actually quite simple, but it is a doube standard.
If, say, they allowed a man to pose in a jockstrap to try and turn a woman on, but cut out the Ranfan strip tease, then it would be a double standard. But as the original situation had one example that was primarily cute, and another that was primarily sexual, it's not a double standard because they aren't directly comparable with each other.

To Deus Ex Machina:

...Yep. Seeing a chick strip is different than seeing a butt intended for cuteness. But is seeing the butts of 13-14 year olds (which Son Goku and Kuririn were about) really cute and innocent?

No more so than her mother, who's only about 16 in the first volume of DB. I wouldn't feel sorry for Bra, tho. Sure she's, uh, looking good for her age, but it's not like she can do anything about it. Not until she finds a guy who can kick her father's assJosh wrote:Maybe she's just well developed

Vegeta doesn't have probs with her being with a guy. EVENTUALLY. It's just that he knows she's currently only 8 (or 10) years old!

Its cuz CARTOON NETWORK and FUNIMATION and EVERY anime company out there is the Anti-Christ! They dun believe in argh gawd! Why do you think they CENSOR words like GOD and HEAVEN and HELL!? They don't want to go to heaven, they dun believe that the hellhole that is Hell and Lucifer himself exists, and when they all die, that is where they are going! Cuz they refuse the love of god and sweet Jesus Christ O' Mighty!
They want to teach our children that there is no life after death, but only another dimension and HFIL! BANISH DER BASTARDS!!

Which is an insult to most of the children watching the show, as if they couldn't figure out that 1+1=2. I'm still confused as to why Funi's attempt to make DBZ "soccer mom friendly" has to tiptoe around bad people dying and subsequently going to Hell. Anyone loony enough to complain to the network about a TV show their kid is watching rather than just turn off the set is liable to be the sort who drags their child to church three or four times a week.

I find it odd that they won't actually show Lanfan stripped down in her bra and panties, but they still kept the whole idea that she was using her sexuality to distract Namu. I mean isn't that more "mature content" than just the sight of a woman in her underwear? Which by the way is kind of ruined by the fact that she kept her socks and running shoes on. Kind of ruined the image.

I dunno. She could have removed the shoes, but I wouldn't have minded if she would have kept the socks! :pI mean isn't that more "mature content" than just the sight of a woman in her underwear? I believe that Izlude was just joking. Saying "Oh, my god," and things such as isn't blasphemous unless your insane. When Tenchi was on Toonami, they said that all the time. Same with Batman and Superman. Unfortunately, showing TV with religious references can get some people upset, whether it's the crazy conservative religious right, or crazy atheists with sticks up their asses.
