I have a question about a breif musical number in ep. 105

Post by IncredibleGuy » Thu Oct 07, 2004 1:15 am

In episode 105 "Another Super Saiyan", the dubbed version, there is a certain musical clip which for a while now has left me very confused. It is, in my opinion, awesome, and the reason I am confused is becuase it and its style never once again show up in the dubbed version of DragonBall. It occurs right before Trunks slices Freeza in half during his little thousand hand manuever, if you want to hear it. My question is if anybody knows or has any idea where this song came from. It's not Faulconer's work as the beat, tone, and pace are far different tfrom his usual style. It just strikes me as odd that this really great music would pop up inbetween his work for only brief couple seconds and then never be heard from again. Was Faulconer getting help from somebody, or what? I just can't seem to figure what's going on here.

I have that on tape, but...

Have you already looked at the credits?

And if so, do you not want a sound clip?

The credits just say Faulconer as usual, but that's not Faulconer's music. If it were, we would've heard AT LEAST ten episodes later.

So do you want a clip? If so I'll have one for you tomorrow.

Holy shit, that's it. But I don't get it, that was made for a site, or from it, or what?

Perhaps a letter to the parties responsible is in order?

Bleh, I read wrong. Ok, so that site Fuujin posted has nothing to do with the clip, but just where exactly did the first link come from?

---
Just who would would those parties be?

I would start with FUNimation in general, Faulconer, and any other audio-related or hell just anybody associated with that episode's production.

Um, I just uploaded the file to a free server... The piece is on "Trunks Compendium" CD, so I guess it's Faulconer after all.

I'll try emailing those people.

Ok, well if that's Faulconer, then what the heck was happening when he made that song. It doesn't anything like his usual work. Bleh, I guess I'll just have to try emailing him too.

Probably just flexing his musical muscles.

I emailed Bruce, and this was the response I got.

"Hi Matt

Yes, this is my work; I am pretty much a musical chameleon where style is concerned...and that is actually a very fun part of doing music for television.

Thanks

Bruce Faulconer"

Now, I'm just mad. If Bruce Faulconer can create music like this, then why doesn't he do it all the time? That clip is much better than his usual stuff. It's also the type of music that doesn't need to be cutoff the moment the camera changes (though he does so anyway), as is case with every other song he's made.

I guess musical chameleon sounds better than flexing his musical muscles

I guess he must've felt bad for sending me such a generic response. A couple minutes later, he sent me two more emails.

Oh

so I can specifically go to the same piece, can you give me the minutes & seconds into the episode your reference occurs?

Thanks

Hi again Matt

I listened to the clip.

This song was just one of those scene specific (I think it appears elsewhere too - but hey that was 3 years ago at least when I worked on it!!). That song was expensive (time required) to produce too because of the special effects.

You should hear some of my recent TV shows too...I even venture into Rob Zombie type styles!!!

Rock on!

 For some reason I get a kick out of reading "Rock on" in that last message.

At least it shows his passion for the work. :)

"Rock on"?
