Viz's Shonen Jump Fifth Anniversary Collector's Edition is a special hardcover issue released 06 August 2008 commemorating five years of the company's Shonen Jump print magazine, collecting the manga chapters from the debut issue as well as additional manga chapters, commentary, interviews, and more.
Contents
The Shonen Jump Fifth Anniversary Collector's Edition reprints the majority of content from the print magazine's debut January 2003 issue, along with Naruto chapter 1 (which began in the magazine's second, February 2003 issue), as well as new content, features, and series highlights exclusive to this release.
The included table of contents solely list the main features, while a secondary manga table of contents lists where in the book each respective series begins. For the sake of clarity and comprehensiveness, we have combined, adapted, and expanded this into a full listing below.

Packaging

The Shonen Jump Fifth Anniversary Collector's Edition comes wrapped in a dust jacket with a composition of existing, previously-used artwork on the front, and Naruto artwork on the back. The inside flaps provide an overview of the "Shonen Jump" brand and biographies of the manga authors featured in the issue.
The actual hardcover book itself features the original front (Dragon Ball Z) and back (Yu-Gi-Oh!) covers from the January 2003 issue it is based on, with the addition of the second issue's cover as a small insert where the price and barcode were originally featured in the bottom-left.
The immediate front two (pp. 2-3) and back two (pp. 330-331) pages are a gallery of all of the magazine's covers from the debut January 2003 issue through the December 2007 issue.
A Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game card was originally included with new issues of the book.
Originally announced to run 298 pages, the final release runs 332 pages.
Announcement
Retailer listings for a "Shonen Jump Issue 1 Fifth Anniversary Collector’s Edition (Hardcover)" were first discovered in May 2008[1], alongside listings for what would eventually materialize as hardcover "Collector's Edition" releases of the first "Dragon Ball" and "Dragon Ball Z" collected volumes. This was followed in June by cover art[2], and an eventual full description[3]:
From Viz Media. Collected in this special edition is all the manga from the very first issue of Shonen Jump, published in December 2002 - the first chapters of Shonen Jump favorites including Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Yu-Gi-Oh!, YuYu Hakusho, Sand Land, and One Piece. Also included are the feature stories from the first five years of Shonen Jump, including Japanese lessons, manga sudoku and rare interviews with great manga creators such as Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto), Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball Z), Tite Kubo (Bleach) and Eiichiro Oda (One Piece) - over a dozen in all. Plus a valuable Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card (released previously only for Shonen Jump's first issue), essays by Shonen Jump's American and Japanese editors, and much more!
