The "Collector's Edition" volumes from Viz compile the first "Graphic Novel" releases from both "Dragon Ball" and "Dragon Ball Z" in premium, hardcover editions. Though initially slated for an October release, both appear to have actually been released 05 November 2008[1][2][3] for $19.99 US / $23.50 CAN each.

Packaging
The "Collector's Edition" volumes are hardcover releases; while the actual covers mirror those of the "Graphic Novel" releases they are based on, the dust jackets feature alternate artwork. The inside flaps feature a profile on original author Akira Toriyama and a brief series introduction.
Color pages are included were applicable; for "Dragon Ball" this includes the fully-colored and limited-palette pages from the first four chapters, while for "Dragon Ball Z" this solely includes chapter 196's two color pages and remaining limited-palette pages.[4]

Retailer listings were first discovered in May 2008[5], alongside a listing for the Shonen Jump Fifth Anniversary Collector's Edition set for release that August. The company formally announced the products in a press release 10 July 2008:[6]
