There are several types of magical water in Dragon Ball. This page serves to differentiate them from one another.
Super Divine Water
Also called the "Super Holy Water" (Viz), the "Super Spirit Water" (Funimation subs), and the "Sacred Water" (Funimation dub), the "Super Divine Water" (超聖水 Chōseisui) is just ordinary water with a legendary reputation. Those who seek the water at Karin Tower grow stronger through the contest to obtain the water from Karin, the water's keeper. Drinking the water alone has no effect; it is the training with Karin that makes them stronger. Only two people have successfully contested Karin for the water: Muten Rōshi, who needed three years to accomplish this feat,[1][2] and Son Goku, who did it in three days.[3][4]
In the Dragon Ball anime, Tao Pai-Pai also scaled Karin Tower to obtain the water, but Karin merely gave it to him, defeating the purpose and depriving Tao of any gain in strength.[5]
Super God Water
Also called the "Super Water of the Gods" (Viz), the "Super Sacred Water" (Funimation subs), and the "Ultra Divine Water" (Funimation dub), the "Super God Water" (超神水 Chōshinsui) is also guarded by Karin of Karin Tower, but unlike the Super Divine Water, the Super God Water actually has the power to increase one's strength.[6][7] It only works if the drinker has untapped potential, and the water is so toxic that only those with tremendous stamina, spirit, and will to live can survive drinking it. Karin himself tried to drink it and was forced to spit it out; Yajirobe barely tasted it and gagged. As far as Karin knows, fourteen others tried to drink it, and all died; however Karin believes it has been successfully consumed in the past, since the legend dates from ancient times. (Karin is only 800-odd years old.) Son Goku is the only known person to drink the water and live to enjoy its benefits, though he was in pain for six hours before his body overcame the toxin.[8]
In the Dragon Ball anime, Karin tells Goku he must find the Super God Water in an ice labyrinth to the north.[9] This filler sequence does not happen in the manga; Goku just drinks the water in Karin Tower.
Superhuman Water
Also known as Comméson (コメソン komeson), the Superhuman Water (超人水 Chōjinsui) is the legendary magical water of Planet Potaufeu, powered by a small crystal core. The people of Potaufeu discovered that this liquid would absorb a person's power and neutralize them, creating an exact copy of them with even greater power than the original. The Potaufeuans used Comméson to protect their planet from invaders, but its manner of duplicating of the people it absorbed caused rumors to spread that there was a Superhuman Water that would increase the power of anyone who drank it one hundredfold, which led to more invasions of Potaufeu. Comméson's ability to absorb was unlimited, but after absorbing the power of so many evil people, it became independently malicious. Fearing that the entire universe would be destroyed, the people of Potaufeu decided to sacrifice themselves in order to contain Comméson, and Potage was chosen to remain and guard the water against those who would come to seek it.[10] Potage guarded the water for over a century before it was unleashed by the Sautéan Gryll and his compatriots.[11] The water absorbed Vegeta's power before it was finally destroyed by Monaka, who stepped on the crystal core, crushing it.[12]
