History
Fuji Television (富士テレビジョン) was founded on 18 November 1957 by several radio companies, including Nippon Broadcasting System and Nippon Cultural Broadcasting. The company's name was changed to Fuji TV (フジテレビ) in December 1958, just prior to commencing its first station broadcast on 01 March 1959. In June of that year, Fuji TV established a collaborative news network with Tokai TV, Kansai TV, and KBC Television. This network was eventually expanded and re-branded as the Fuji News Network (FNN) in October 1966 to facilitate the exchange of local news between stations, allowing them to be shared nationally. In conjunction with the FNN, and to supply uniform and organized network programming, Fuji TV established the Fuji Network System (FNS), a network comprised of 28 affiliate television stations across Japan. The company's first color program was broadcast in September 1964.
Fuji TV updated their corporate logo in April 1986, abandoning their original "Channel 8" logo and adopting the "Medama" logo used by the media conglomerate Fujisankei Communications Group.
On 10 March 1997, Fuji TV moved from their old headquarters in Kawadacho, Shinjuku, into a new building in Odaiba, Minato designed by the renowned Japanese architect Kenzō Tange. After several changes in the structure of the company in 2006, Fuji TV became Fuji Media Holdings, Inc., a certified broadcasting holding company under the media conglomerate Fujisankei Communications Group, and the Fuji Television Network, Inc. was founded to oversee the company's broadcasting business interests.
On 01 December 2003 at 11:00am, Fuji TV began broadcasting their digital terrestrial station "JOCX-DTV".
