A new section for the forum

Post by ShadowDude112 » Sun Sep 05, 2010 8:44 pm

You see, I'm a guy who loves Dragon Ball, don't get me wrong but can we have like a section called "Lounge" or "Off-Topic" just in case we want to get on a subject non-Dragon Ball related. Just a thought, you don't have to do this but I was just wondering if we could do this.

500th post!

But I mean like, we could talk about different subjects. Like Scott Pilgrim, Duke Nukem, Sonic, Mario, etc. That kinda thing.

Mike has many a time said 'no' because then the forum begins becoming more and more about that section, rather than Dragon Ball. Members might wind up joining simply for that non-Dragon Ball section.

The chat room is basically the off-topic section. It's usually pretty healthy, unless you happen to show up when everyone's asleep. And we discuss a wide variety of subjects, such as Pokemon, Pokemon, and Taku's hatred of Pokemon.

That sounds like the most interesting chat of all time.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I'm kinda glad that the forum is DB only. If I want to discuss other things, I'll go into another forum.

Everyone always says they want an off-topic section, but when it comes down to it no one can really be bothered to participate in one. As was mentioned, we had a board off-site for off-topic stuff that I made back in the early days because demand was pretty high and Mike (as mentioned) has no interest in adding such as section to the boards here. It was popular and good for about a year. Then the handful who went there stopped going, and now it's dead.

And Steam!

I too am glad the forum is Dragon Ball only, if I wanted to talk about something else I'd go somewhere else.

That sounds like the most interesting chat of all time.
Yeah, be careful what you wish for. If the chat's anything to go by (and I know from first hand experience that Rachel isn't really exaggerating by much) an off topic section for the forum wouldn't be terribly stimulating in terms of topical variety. Most of the regulars here, bless them, tend to have fairly one-track minds.
I don't think that's entirely true. The reason Pokemon is practically the only thing the chat ever talks about is because it's a common interest, so nobody brings up other topics. (Almost) Everyone is happy talking about Pokemon, and because of that the occasional "I think Dead Rising 2 looks cool" doesn't get noticed amongst a sea of Pokemon discussion. With a message board you can have multiple conversations at once instead of having to talk about one thing at a time, so people like me would have a chance to talk to other members about how Dead Rising 2 Case Zero is super dope and has me hyped for the full game, or about how I can't wait for Dexter Season Five to start, and actually be noticed. Instead of there being a million lines about Pokemon there would be one Pokemon topic on a board with hundreds of topic. Sure the Pokemon thread would probably be the most popular thread, but there'd still be plenty of room for other topics to get noticed.

However, EX has said on multiple occasions that he doesn't want an off-topic forum because it would become the focus of the forum. If you want to talk with DaizEX members about other stuff, you're stuck with talking in the chat about Pokemon...

I need to get into the chat more...get in touch with my fellow Daizex-ers. :P

EDIT: I say we all just get skype and text chat that way...I know at least a 3 other members here who have it.

The Introductions forum was kind of a little chill-out area where one could meet newbies and chat about Frankenbell, Room 29, the Green Team, Desiré touching children etc., but Mike closed it when it basically mutated into a crasy (the last letter of the alphabet key is missing on this keyboard :P) off-topic forum. And not the good kind, either...

New to the forum? Just want to know when you'll hit your next posting rank? Ever wondered why some users have special titles, and what they mean? The answers to all these questions and more are waiting for you in the Kanzenshuu Member Hierarchy Guide!!

Yeah, I remember that. Also, my dancing video - which I'm proud to say is the top search result for a Youtube search for "daizenshuu ex".

You could've just copied the "Z", Like from someone else's post or alphabet list.
