Hurricane Sandy

Post by MCDaveG » Fri Nov 02, 2012 6:40 am

Hi folks, saw the news coverage of this crazy storm and hope the Jersey staff and community members from east coast are okay!
I wish that the situation on east coast of US will be dealt with soon and everything will be back to normal the quickest way possible.
Cheers!

I live in Maryland and I'm okay. Nothing major happen in our area and we didn't even lose power. Having no class on Tuesday was nice though.

I live in New Jersey, but far enough from the shoreline that I didn't get hit by the storm too hard. Never lost power, basement stayed dry as a bone, everything in the yard's still standing, and so forth.

Mike's farther up North and ended up much worse off, from what I gather.

It's a scary situation, we don't get anything like that in England, so it's even stranger for us. Our hearts are with anyone who's lost precious possessions and been separated from loved ones.

I live in South Western Connecticut and only lost power for about 4-ish hours. Unfortunately, a firefighter passed away in my town responding to a call. So, yeah, pretty bad. Made enjoying the 5 days off from school rather guilt inducing when the lives of a family nearby were changed forever. Other parts of my state lost power in the 70% ranges. It's been rough, but fortunately for me and my family, everything was okay in the end.

Somehow I ended up among the few in NJ who didn't lose power. There were a couple short seconds-long flickers during the storm, and I had some building damage, but power, water, and internet connection all stayed put for which I am very grateful. The various adventures I've had over the course of the past three days are indicating that everyone is slowly getting their power back.

Wait, isn't the majority of Mike's recording and Dragon ball stuff in his basement? Although I'm pretty sure he had the foresight to move it upstairs before the hurricane hit, right?

Lots of downed trees in our neighborhood, but no flooding this storm. Lost power Monday afternoon, and it's still out.

All the DBZ stuff and equipment were moved and are fine. :P

Haha, that's cool you're all okay! You know the media, I saw some really horrific pics and some of my facebook friends even got photo of small shark in the water in his backyard (Which can be photoshoped of course) :)

I'm glad that everyone who frequents this board is okay.

On a separate note, the thread title is worded in such a way that all I can think of is a hurricane full of sand.

HA! I didn't notice that until you mentioned it, and now it bothers me terribly. Edited.

I live in Maryland too. We lost power for 2 days. We got a generator and hooked up as much to it as we could. Within 5 minutes of the generator running, the power came back on.

I also am in Maryland (Baltimore City). We lucked out though and didn't lose any power, which is surprising since we usually lose power fairly easily.

It bothers me too, probably because I have found it to be annoyingly prevalent in spoken language. For awhile there, I was hearing at least once a day about "the Sandy hurricane", and all I could think about is desert sandstorms an' shit.

Seriously, I never heard two words about "the Irene hurricane". ;p
