Influential Non-Story Manga Aspects in the Anime

Post by Hujio » Mon Apr 18, 2011 11:05 pm

So this mini-guide came about because of the recent thread concerning the last image in the first DragonBall Z ending them, "Come Out, Incredible ZENKAI Power!". After mentioning that the image in question was based off of chapter 207's title page, Turtle Marked Stone noted that covering all of these type of instances would "make a pretty amusing mini-guide". Of course he was right, so I decided to take up the challenge!

I present to everyone the newest mini-guide on Kanzentai, the "Influential Non-Story Manga Aspects" section!

Image

This will hopefully go live on the site sometime tomorrow, but for now, I want to know if anyone can think of anything I may have missed. For the life of me, I can't think of any others besides the 32 I found. Anyway, I had a lot of fun doing this, so I hope it's somewhat enjoyable to look through. :P

Neato! I'm impressed that you managed to come up with a guide title more drawn-out than mine.

Great work, Hujio. Not only is a guide that nobody knew they needed, it's a really great one!

The scene where Goku imitating Ginyu's "Shee" like pose is based on a chapter title page art as well.

Ah, you're right! I completely forgot about it since it's in the middle of an episode. I'll have to add it. Thanks!

Wasn't this group shot in the Android arc version of the opening? I think it was rearranged (and I seem to remember Trunks having his jacket on in the anime), but I believe that that was inspired by this image.

As is the shot of Gohan imagining Goku-Ginyu flying on the Kintoun.

There are many more. I swear the animators' aim was to incorporate as much of Toriyama's art into the anime and movies as they possibly could.

Right now I'm studying for exams, so I'll contribute some of the ones I've noticed, later on.

Excellent guide! I've noticed a lot of these before, having seen the original Dragonball and read the manga too many times (I'm a Kid Goku fanboy, what can I say?) Karin-sama with the Ultra Divine Water Teapot on his head was an awesome scene/picture both in the manga and in the Anime.

I was right, I did enjoy reading this guide immensely!

Fantastic job per the norm, you always know you're getting good stuff when the Kanzentai folks are at the helm. This is really up my ally and I can see this being a guide I'll return to every now and again.

Wasn't the whole driving episode based on a cover page?

In episode 36, when the characters point toward the horizon and yell, "Onward to Namek," that's based off the title page from chapter 243.

Also, I noticed a slight typo on Influence #09: "until Krillin was introduced as one of Kame-sennin's second pupil." That should be either "one of Kame-sennin's pupils" or "Kame-sennin's second pupil."

Another type on Influence #20: "A pick and yellow background was added." I think you mean pink?

And finally, I can't get the image for Influence #30 to load.

Oh yes, I'll definitely have to include that one.

Thanks for catching those typos. I hadn't gotten around to re-reading anything yet.

That's because I was making it while you were trying to see it. It should be up now, although the comparison isn't, since I'll have to wait until I get home to scan it out of Daizenshuu 1.

Also, thanks to everyone that's helped out so far, and of course thanks to everyone that likes it!

Bleh. I made a typo in pointing out one of your typos. What are the odds? Anyway, yep. Image 30 is there now. Sorry I doubted you. :P

Alright, everything is all up-to-date in the guide, except for a couple images, and we're now up to 40 examples. Are there any other influences anyone can think of right now? I haven't looked through the movies yet, but that'll have to wait until tonight.
