Question Regarding "Necroposting"

Post by Thanos6 » Sat Apr 15, 2006 4:56 pm

Namely, what qualifies as necro-posting?

Most of the boards I've been to don't have that rule, and the few that have all disagree as to where the necro-posting line is.

So where is it on this board? I don't want to post in something that's "safe" elsewhere but "necrotic" here and get in trouble.

Thanks in advance.

If a thread has been inactive for several weeks or more (in my opinion I would say at least 3 weeks), it would be considered necroposting to reply to it. This doesn't apply to stickied threads though.

I wouldn't call "a couple of weeks" necroposting if the question's still unanswered, but if the topic has been sufficiently covered and the discussion has drifted off-topic, there's no reason to reply again.

When in doubt, start a new thread. If someone's complains that "there's already a thread on this" tell 'em you didn't want to necropost.

Just a note, be careful with this; sometimes, someone will link to one topic from another topic. If you reply to the linked topic, make sure it's not too old.

Also, the person who links to that topic is in no way responsible for the necroposts

And if you DO post on a old topic, and realized it seconds after you pushed the 'Submit' button, there's always the handy Delete.

Haha, yeah. We need to write a legal contract regarding this. :P

I think the Daizenshuu EX forum needs its own constitution.

I wonder which forums Thanos visits, most that I visit all too swiftly give the boot to chronic necro posters.
