Boo on Mephisto for improperly using "MacGuffin". I think the word he was looking for is "Deus ex Machina". OK, now I've got my nitpicking for the week done.

I love how Arale keeps popping up in DB games lately. My old Budokai 3 what-if has finally come true!

Ah man, I was hoping the new Nozawa Masako interview would be news worthy... Oh well. Nice review as usual. I've been waiting to hear Meri's thoughts.

Great podcast! I will probably pick up the game when it drops in price.

 Yeah I realized I used the wrong terminology after I sent off the e-mail. If anything the Dragonballs themselves are a MacGuffin. You're perfectly right Herms and as I said I recalled that my use of the word was incorrect but I already sent off the e-mail much to my embarrassment. I am definitely not going into film school anytime soon. :(

To be shamed by Herms is like getting kicked in the balls. I shall go commit ritual suicide now. Excuse me . . .

It's been a while since I saw the "Doomrider" video. Something always bothered me about electronica music behind DBZ scenes, it reminded me too much of the dub. But, all thingsc considered, it's a pretty awesome video.

Funimation is scary important now. Personally, I long for the days of Bandai and ADV's supremecy. But, Funimation is handling most of its properties pretty well.

Yeesh, I'm not so sure I want to get this Dragon Ball game or not. On the one hand, I want to be lil' Goku, kicking ass in those graphics, enjoying old-fashioned platform fighting. But on the other hand, the game play sounds troublesome, and even though you say it's easy, I am not a very talented gamer at all. Maybe I should avoid this and continue to hold it up to high esteem from afar.

The whole "Zenkai" thing confused me when I first read it in the forums, because I only remember that word/term used in the ED, "Zenkai Power", so I convinced myself that the song itself was talking about that power, and I had missed something years ago. It's funny that I still come to weird misunderstandings about DBZ to this day.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

To be fair this is a really recent development, that may not have been the case when they recorded.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I'm confused about the music in the game...

Did the American version replace the music of the Japanese version with the American Sparking soundtrack? Or all the versions including the Japanese version used the same music?

Someone makes this clear to me!

---

And that "Doomrider"... I've always heard about it but never got the chance to see it!

It took years to make it?!!

Ever thought of including Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball GT when you've started it?

Something I forgot to mention...

You talked a bit how the game was off the radar of many game reviewers... let me share with you some comments from my side of the world:
The game is a 2.5D adventure game?
It's strange not to have a DB fighting game!
It's cool to have 3D characters with 2D backgrounds! Reminds me of New Super Mario, but what I didn't like is why it's from the first Dragon Ball?! Why do we have it instead of Z or GT?
Since it's about the first part of Dragon ball, I'll make a painful skip for it.
If they did a port for Infinit World (The best DBZ game) with extras, it'll be much better for them!
Where can I get Raging Blast?!
Sorry... I can't even turn into a Super Saiyan in this game.
It's painful reading these kind of comments from who don't want to acknowledge what's before Dragon ball Z.

Someone makes this clear to me!
Sparking! came out in Japan, and featured in-game BGM which is music from the TV show by Shunsuke Kikuchi. When it was brought to the US, it was re-titled Budokai Tenkaichi and its in-game musical score was replaced with old music from the previous DragonBall Z / Budokai games.

Sparking! NEO came out in Japan, and featured in-game BGM which is music from the TV show by Shunsuke Kikuchi. When it was brought to the US, it was re-titled Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and had its musical score replaced with NEW MUSIC composed by the Japanese, though this music never appeared in any Japanese-release of the game.

Sparking! METEOR came out in Japan, and featured in-game BGM which is music from the TV show by Shunsuke Kikuchi. When it was brought to the US, it was re-titled Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and had its musical score replaced with NEW MUSIC composed by the Japanese, though this music never appeared in any Japanese-release of the game.

Tenka-ichi Dai-bouken came out in Japan, and used the BGM that was composed for the American releases of Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and Budokai Tenkaichi 3. When it was brought to the US, it was re-titled Revenge of King Piccolo and kept the same music as the Japanese version... which means that American gamers actually knew the music from Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and Budokai Tenkaichi 3.

I cannot wait to see all the Kai calender images. (And I have to say that Goku's naked left foot being so front-and-center is unintentionally hilarious to me).
You know what I'd like to see make a comeback in terms of DB calenders? Theme months. I remember someone posting a scan of a late 80's early 90's DB calender where the gang's playing tennis together and dressed for the occasion. The kind of stuff that disappeared after the Freeza arc. Re-enactments to the arcs themselves are nice, but I'd like something fun too.

I'm now curious about what type of mustache Julian's growing because of the way you guys talked about it. (Because I am now picturing him with an 1800's handlebar mustache knowing that I'm wrong. >_< )

If I had a Wii, I could definitely see myself picking up "Revenge of King Piccolo", as I too am tired of the barrage of fighting games and long for other genres. Its why I'm not really set on getting "Raging Blast" and excited about the Kai DS game.

Julian was Lafcadio Hearn for Halloween.
