Movies, GT & Other Timelines in the Other Universes?
It's hard to make one timeline that features all the filler, movies, GT, etc., not mention the timelines in the Cell arc. This is weird to phrase, but do you think these side stories took place in the other 11 universes? Could this explain why Trunks couldn't change his past because he was really only visiting another universe? If so, if the Earth was destroyed in Trunks' timeline, would it be by someone other than Beers?

By Cell after he absorbed Androids 17 and 18 without contest.
Re: Movies, GT & Other Timelines in the Other Universes?
I believe all those things you mentioned simply didn't happen at all, and were made just for entertainment. I know the same could be said about DB in general, but you get what I mean... Right?
Re: Movies, GT & Other Timelines in the Other Universes?
I also wonder if the timeline split or Trunks really was visiting another universe. But it was called a time travel machine...
Re: Movies, GT & Other Timelines in the Other Universes?
Trunks was visiting another universe every time he traveled, the one he just created, but I don't think these universes have anything to do with the ones Birusu is talking about. The universes Trunks created can be infinite in numbers, and I believe that the ones where inconsistent events take place (like the ones from certain movies) are the same. The universe where DBZ Movie 2, for example, takes place could be a universe created by a similar mechanism just as Trunks' time traveling, which is what I believe.

I don't think that the alternate timelines are different universes, simply alternate versions of the events that occurred in Universe 7. Trunks' timeline included.

So far there's really nothing to suggest that the other universes contain alternate versions of Goku and co., though admittedly we still know practically nothing about these "universes" besides that there are twelve in total. In the movie, the revealation that Goku's world is only one of twelve universes seems like a way of saying that there's a lot more out there than what we know about, rather than a way of classifying all the movies, spin-offs and whatnot that we already know about.

I really hope they capitalize on the other universes and not leave us with so many questions on them.Herms wrote:So far there's really nothing to suggest that the other universes contain alternate versions of Goku and co., though admittedly we still know practically nothing about these "universes" besides that there are twelve in total. Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

I want to able to to fit all of this into the different universes. I'm not implying they are, but I think it'd be cool to be able to explain that everything happened in a different version and numbered universe. If this could work, however, the universes would forever expand. For example, wouldn't the Dr. Slump crossover have made another universe, as well as the timelines in the Cell arc? I like this theory of expansion.Herms wrote:In the movie, the revealation that Goku's world is only one of twelve universes seems like a way of saying that there's a lot more out there than what we know about, rather than a way of classifying all the movies, spin-offs and whatnot that we already know about.

Re: Movies, GT & Other Timelines in the Other Universes?
I have to say, they really got our attention with this 'universes' thing. That would be interesting if Trunks's timeline was another universe but then again we still don't know whether or not the other universes specifically contain the Z Fighters and all. Having multiple different universes is a great way to place so many different things that has happened from alternates timelines and GT. I agree, hopefully they don't leave us with so many unanswered theories and questions.
(Fanfiction link coming soon.)
Re: Movies, GT & Other Timelines in the Other Universes?
If the different Universes are the same thing as the different time lines than at least three universes have the Z fighters. These universes aren't very original than.

Having the "Twelve Universes" consist of justifying all the movies and GT would be very disappointing.

Re: Movies, GT & Other Timelines in the Other Universes?
Yeah, the "12 universes" just being alternate timelines (which shouldn't be limited to such a small number, considering that a new one splits off every time someone time-travels...) or things like the movies, GT, etc. that can't happen in the main story's timeline would be really disappointing. Leave the "team-ups between multiple Gokus vs. the strongest villains" stuff to fanfiction and video games.
I don't think they've really been presented as "alternate universes" (different version of the same thing, like the differing timelines and such) but as "other universes." As in, another whole "cosmos ball" as seen in the diagrams, but with its own unique populations and planets, ruled over by different Kaioshins and a different God of Destruction. The fact that there's only twelve of them suggests that they're not things like the alternate timelines... if they were just alternate timelines, almost half of them would be taken up just by timelines related to Trunks' future (Cell's original timeline where he killed Trunks, the timeline the Trunks we know came from, the main timeline we know, and presumably a "Cell comes back but Trunks doesn't" timeline and a "Trunks comes back but Cell doesn't" timeline, just to round out the possibilities of which time-traveling happened where.) If you're counting Episode of Bardock, you also have to have another one to account for Freeza's magic accidental time-travel blast... so that's 6 "universes" taken up just by slightly altered versions of the one we know, and half of those are just "bad future" timelines. And that's assuming that nobody else in the DBZ universe (or any alternate version of it) besides future Bulma has ever invented time-travel. If anyone else has, and they've used it at all, it'd be pretty much guaranteed that there would be more than 12 of these alternate timelines floating around.
Plus, Beers suggests that there might be strong warriors on his and SSj God Goku's level in the other universes that he doesn't even know about... if they're just alternate timelines, only something like GT (with its SSj4's and overpowered villains) or the alternate universes seen in Dragonball Multiverse (super-ultra-Namek, permanently fused Goku/Vegeta, infinitely stronger Broly...) would even come close to qualifying for something like that.

And why is that? If villains like Broly and Janemba can be unique to one universe and not another, then each universe is still wildly different from the next with Goku and co. pretty much being the only constant.... for some reason.Duo wrote:Having the "Twelve Universes" consist of justifying all the movies and GT would be very disappointing.

Re: Movies, GT & Other Timelines in the Other Universes?
It's an interesting thought. Maybe Trunk's timeline could be another universe. I think there just alternate realities of the main Dragon ball timeline. Kind of reminds me of that one Futurama episode where the characters go through different dimensions and meet themselves.
Re: Movies, GT & Other Timelines in the Other Universes?
Then you get 12 universes that only have slight differences starting at a certain period in history? What a limited and dissatisfying concept. As Pants said, leave that stuff in the Fanfiction and Video Games.Barunks wrote:And why is that?
