Dragon Ball 2024 40th Anniversary Predictions

Post by mecha3000 » Mon Oct 02, 2023 6:46 am

Now that we're in October, 2023 is winding down so I just wanted to see what everyone thinks will happen next year for DB's 40th anniversary, besides Tenkaichi 4 and Magic (if real), which we already know are probably coming next year.

Personally, I hope we get a re-release of the ENTIRE Dragon Ball series (Dragon Ball, Z, GT, Kai, Super) on Blu-ray in a collectible gift set in its original aspect ratio and with broadcast audio (which happened with that Dragon Ball release in France). Is that going to happen? Hell no. Crunchyroll has shown to be an even worse company than Funimation in terms of home releases and with everything going digital, I doubt they would do what I want. I hope I'm proven wrong though.

I'd also like Viz to release the Dragon Ball Kanzenbans and finish the Full Color editions. Not a chance in hell that happens, though. And I've said this a thousand times, but English dubs for Yo! Son Goku, Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans, and Episode of Bardock would be welcome for the English side of things (even though I know they're so old at this point and Yo! Son Goku has rights issues). But hey, they did dub the FREAKIN' DBZ x TORIKO x ONE PIECE crossover so who knows???

It's also Dragon Ball Z's 35th anniversary so maybe something will happen for it too? But at the end of the day, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are one and the same anyway so next year is also Z's 40th in a way.

EDIT: Also, if not before the end of this year, I genuinely believe a live-action project will be announced, especially due to the success of One Piece.

There is simply NO WAY Toei and Shueisha wont do something HUGE to celebrate the 40th anniversary. I dont know what it is yet but I know we will see something. And even bigger for 2026 which is the 40 anniversary of the anime!

This forum is so over-dramatic that it's not even funny.

The recently announced Dragon Ball Magic will be streamed in many countries, although probably not all of them.

A new Dragon Ball Super movie will be announced.

XenoVerse 3 might be announced.

There will be no new home releases from Crunchyroll other than lazy repackages like the GT Complete Series and 2013/14 Z Blu-Rays, but 4K Ultra HDs may be released for the rest of the revival era movies in Japan.

Someone significant from either the Japanese or English side will pass away.

Possible re-release of the manga

Maybe a Crunchyroll re-release of the original anime. But its not going to be an import of the AB Groupe release, it's going to be the blue bricks for double the price they were going for with the Crunchyroll logo added

My unrealistic pipe-dream prediction is for a new, worthwhile English release of the original manga from Viz. The 3-in-1s have all been out for the better part of a decade now, the VizBigs are even older, and I'd love to finally have a new "Anniversary Edition" worthy of replacing my copies of the latter. Something with a long-overdue revised translation, as-unedited-as-possible artwork, retained color and title pages, etc. A fancy, hardcover, truly collectible-quality release on par with what they've done for Fullmetal Alchemist and Fist of the North Star in recent years.

But the more that I, specifically, want something, the less likely the universe is to let it happen, so... :|

I hope they bring OG Dragon Ball to Bluray or at least release the recent 4:3 Z steelbooks on normal Bluray cases.

My pipe-dream: a new television special that remakes the Saiyan or or something, in the mold of the One Piece specials from the 2010s. An entire arc in 105 minutes.

I kind of doubt Viz will do a good re-release of the 1984 comic, though. That just doesn't seem to be their thing with their bigger titles.

Unfortunately, when it comes to Dragon Ball Z I don't think Crunchyroll is ever gonna to release the series in 4:3 in anything other than "Collector's Editions"

Crunchyroll did release original Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray in Germany, but unfortunately its inferior to the French Blu-Ray from AB and lacked the broadcast audio.

Would still be better than repackaging the blue bricks, which I wouldn't put past Crunchyroll.

It would be a good time for Crunchyroll to release a boxset of the movies using the Toei remaster

Well, at least release the steelbooks again. They are crazy overpriced.

My relatively safe prediction: the Goku balloon will be back in the Macy's Thanksgiving parade.

My less safe twist: it'll be a new/modified design that ditches the Super Saiyan Blue look.
"Perfect" is the enemy of the good. True for Cell and true for real life.
Don't forget to slow down and enjoy yourself.

I know Super Saiyan Blue was the more marketable form, but they should really have Goku on the Nimbus/Kinto Un for Macys Day Parade. It would look so much better.

Where was this announced? I'm curious.

We will probably get a Blu Ray version of the orange bricks, "improved' with AI upscaling.

Legitimately, I expect jack.

In the UK, they do have the 4:3 discs in regular sleeves and cases that you can get on Amazon. Here's a link to a video about them (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yOytBe_2H ... l2ZQ%3D%3D) and where to get one (https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Seas ... 67&sr=8-18)

And despite what it says, they DO INDEED PLAY ON US BLU-RAY PLAYERS.
