French DB/Z movie boxset: now with link to test!

Post by sangofe » Thu May 03, 2007 2:59 pm

Edit: There's now a French test online that can be found here:
http://www.daily-mag.fr/index.php?optio ... 1&Itemid=1

It has a LOT of screen captures, more specific information about the sub titles, information in the booklet etc.
If there's enough demand, I will translate the test.[/i]

I said earlier I was going to do a review of this test, but, this may take a while because I ordered my set at alapage.fr when it was for 30 Euro... and was hoping to get it for that price still, since I did not get a notification about my order being canceled although others did.
I have not gotten a notice about it being sent out either yet, so, either they've canceled without telling me, or, it's late being sent out. I need to find out.

Old information:
In this first set off two, are DB Z GT movies and specials.
The first box contains DB movies 1-3, and DBZ 1-6 + Bardock special.
Second box will contain rest of DBZ movies, Trunks, and DBGT special,
and maybe DB movie 4, but, the problem with movie4, is that AB don't have rights for that one.
Pictures of the box itself, and menus:

Video is remastered, however it doesn't seem like it's done from Toei's film masters, but rather AB's own masters.
Here's a quote about the re mastering process they've supposedly been through:
When "remastered" it got said in French forums that AB bought "new machines" removing dust and grain.
SatoSky wrote:Looking at the screenies, it's definitely been DVNR'd. Not as bad as the FUNi DVD's though.
Screen capture comparisons:

You can see that the "16:9" has been made from 4:3, with black bars, instead of the true 16:9 the Dragonbox releases have.[/quote]

The "goodies" are a booklet of 96 pages, and 10 "collection" cards.
Video extras, if any, are still unknown.
Tracks are Japanese and French.
Subtitles in French.

Price was 69,95€, update;
Discountmanga lowered price to 64,99€ :

And Nautilis to 63,44:

Snap! That's kickass news. Keep us posted, especially about the 96 page companion book. If my hunch is right, it may be a translation of part or all of daizenshuu 6.

Wait. France beat us at something?

This wouldn't have happened if Captain America wasn't dead.

Seriously, though. THat's pretty cool!

Would someone do a conversion of the price. Unless i am mistaken, this isn't very cheap. Is there a chance that this is dragonbox footage?

That's $105.60 Canadian, and $95.02 US.

Hmmm... Buy for $105.60, keep the daizenshuu and cards, and sell the rest on Ebay for $120? Why yes, yes I think I will.

Thats an incredible price for those movies and Japanese version alone! Add the book and the cards, and you have an amazing Dragonball release. Funimation should be taking notes.

Well, AB fucked fans in whole Europe since the early 90s. It's nice that those bastards will finally release proper DragonBall products, but this doesn't mean I'll go down on my knees for AB.

True. For the longest time they acted as the French equivalent of FUNi.

Freeza Goon before Bardock gets killed: "HUWAAAAAAAAIIN!!! SAY LO MERSER FUUUUREEEEEEZZEEEHHRR!!!!" Least they got that name right. Unlike "Petit Coeur" (Little Heart. The name they translated for Piccolo  ).

Wow. The box looks gorgeous. I'll definately be picking this up. Now I just need to brush up on my French. *Fingers crossed for a series release as well*
With a little bit of extra effort, FUNI could have had a nicer looking box. Anything's better than the 'big-orange thing'.
*sigh* The UK never gets anything like this.

When is the uk going to get some good dragonball Z dvds? Not ones that include the phrase "Big-green."

I know how you feel. Lucky French, if only Funimation would take a hint from these guys on how to do things right.

WHY do they get this awesome kind of release and the US doesn't. Funi doesn't do to good with DBZ here. But who the hell can stay mad at them lately? They've saved One Piece and are gonna give that a proper dub and uncut release. They definitely redeemed themselves with that.
