Re: Is there a general consensus on what the worst movie is?

The idea that Freeza never trained is actually a pretty cool angle and I can buy the idea that he would become exceedingly strong "debasing" himself with training. Frankly, I don't understand the exceptional hate for RoF. It's sitting at the bottom of the pile with a handful of other DB movies, but...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

So, is this the most ideal for someone who can't acquire the DBoxes? This won't be the last set. Hold out for the better set, that will come, eventually. It may not be perfect but it'll be better than this. I've been around long enough now to see the words "this is the best we're gonna get" over an...

Re: Is there a general consensus on what the worst movie is?

However, to me, Resurrection F is now the absolute worst among all the movies. It's got too many technical defects, which makes it almost cease to function as a motion picture. It's not even a matter of being good or bad as a Dragon Ball movie. Resurrection F seems to be dodging a lot of bullets in...

Re: Editing of painfully-outdated LGBT+ content in future DB(Z) releases?

Having done edits to the show myself, I can say with a fair amount of confidence that trying to edit out signs of Blue being effimate or Mr. Popo being Kami's servant would be impossible without making it extremely obvious that the footage was tampered with in the first place, because they're part ...

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 9/2/19!)

i wonder if tenshinhan's comment at the end was just toriyama trying to retire the character ? i don't think he sees kuririn and yamucha again for the rest of the series, so his statement was about half true, lol. I was also thinking this, Toriyama trying to make Ten bow out 'with grace'? Which mak...

Re: If Manga UK Were To Release 'Rock the Dragon'

I think about this set a lot. Besides a (proper) Blu-Ray release of Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z, the 'Rock the Dragon' set is one of the few sets I'd love to have sitting on my shelf, it was pretty much my introduction to anime, and it's a real respectful presentation of that era. Not sure I'd be supe...

Re: The differences between Toei Goku and Manga Goku

This topic seems to be heading into pretty dark territory so I'd like to post a slightly more positive message, if I may! I'd just like to take this time to say this is one of the discussions of the fandom I've become more fascinated with over time. I feel like the dialogue has become much more nuan...

Re: Are Power Scalers a cause or symptom of toxicity in the fandom?

I think the three Saiyan Arc moves are good though (although I'll use English names for spelling reasons). The Special Beam Cannon is an assassin-style drilling move and the Destructo Disc can cut through almost anything, so the power put into those moves don't matter. The Spirit Bomb meanwhile is ...

Re: Are Power Scalers a cause or symptom of toxicity in the fandom?

There's no denshi jars (though admittedly that move never got off the ground), no attacks which can blind the foe, no ability to leave after-images to confuse them, nothing. The taiyoken disagrees, and the after image is shown to be a fairly elementary technique that only the least skilled fighters...

Is there an actual reason why Super should stop for a moment and give a shit about GT instead of doing its own thing?
Mulla. GT would likely lose some brand value if it was ever officially disclosed to not be a part of the main story.

Re: Underrated Dragon Ball Song Thread

The Hit Songs Collection's had a lot of bangers. One I used to listen to more than any other in my teens was Yoake no Kodomo-tachi. It's real light, poppy, and has that nice late 80's soundscape to it. Not the best Dragon Ball song, but I never heard anyone talk about it.

Re: Are Power Scalers a cause or symptom of toxicity in the fandom?

It’s not some characters being more powerful than others that bothers me. It’s the amount of emphasis that gets placed on pure strength, which didn’t feel especially prominent until the time that King Piccolo showed up. The battle power concept just made this seem even more noticeable. Before that,...

Re: Are Power Scalers a cause or symptom of toxicity in the fandom?

The weak point for the villains wasn’t really that they applied numbers to a person’s strength. It was that they couldn’t sense a person’s ki like the heroes could, which meant that they had to rely on their scouters, They're one in the same, they view their opponents as numbers because they've not...

Re: Are Power Scalers a cause or symptom of toxicity in the fandom?

I think one of the biggest mistakes Toriyama has made in regards to Dragon Ball was coming up with the entire concept of power levels to begin with. It completely sapped away the fun and creativity in the fights, and only served to spawn a bunch of debates about how high x character’s power level i...

Re: DB could work as Cartoon Series?

Sure, cartoons have never looked so diverse, stylistically. I can't see how Dragon Ball wouldn't be able to be visually translated, whilst keeping the integrity/flavour of the original. https://66.media.tumblr.com/acb80f61bd76b381b86cffe324955369/tumblr_pa1ajwvkcR1xwq2gjo1_500.png https://66.media.t...

Re: What's wrong with Toyotaro's necks?

Yeah this neck thing seems to be doing the rounds. It seems to have (noticeably) become a thing with Toriayama's art around the Kanzenban releases? Though it isn't too extreme there. https://www.fightersgeneration.com/nf2/char/dbfz/tien-shinhan/tien-shinhan-artwork-by-akira-toriyama.png Since then i...

i still think the start of the boo arc is some of the best stuff in all of Z, and probably the funniest stuff toriyama wrote after the red ribbon arc (though i do think gotenks vs super boo is funnier), so i really wish toriyama felt better about that stuff lol. Yup, Gohan in school/being a part-ti...

Re: Does Dragon Ball as a Franchise goes in your right Direction ?

Not in my right direction, no. Since Dragon Ball was able to sit in the public conscious for years before rebooting, I feel it helped let pop-culture massively influence what's relevant in the continuation of the series, which has helped it become something of a parody of itself. Because of this we ...

Re: With DragonBall getting more and more global, it's time to include more lgbtqia+ characters

I dunno if Dragon Ball is getting 'more and more' global, it's pretty much had a global syndication already, at this point it's probly just getting more popular because the people who like it have kids, and their kids like it, or a new generation are getting into Super. Nitpicks of the topic title a...
