Re: “There is nothing to learn from Dragon Ball,” says Akira Toriyama’s editor, Kazuhiko Torishima

Your statements have nothing to do with what was said and shows fragile feelings. I don't care if Vegeta's shift to the dark side made sense to you or not, because I feel we are derailing from the topic established in the original post and our opinions are unlikely to change anytime soon. DB is the ...

Re: “There is nothing to learn from Dragon Ball,” says Akira Toriyama’s editor, Kazuhiko Torishima

You seem to have a really bad sense of what makes good character writing. No, I just don't turn to look at Dragon Ball for good character writing and I never did. None of the characters are especially well-written, compared to other works in its genre both in its time and in the contemporary, most ...

Re: “There is nothing to learn from Dragon Ball,” says Akira Toriyama’s editor, Kazuhiko Torishima

It's been 7 years since Vegeta settled down on Earth and started a family with Bulma, and Toriyama has been essentially telling us to take his word for Vegeta's settling down. We see very small bits and pieces of it; an episode of his trying to figure out how to relate Trunks, his being more relaxed...

Re: “There is nothing to learn from Dragon Ball,” says Akira Toriyama’s editor, Kazuhiko Torishima

People feel guilty when they invest in a kids show like Dragon Ball in their adulthood. So they make these excuses that there are some deep meaning to every arc or any meaningful character development. Piccolo, Tenshinhan, Vegeta, Krillin, Bulma, and a handful of others don't change or develop? I g...

Re: “There is nothing to learn from Dragon Ball,” says Akira Toriyama’s editor, Kazuhiko Torishima

The funny thing about that quote is that Toriyama said the exact same thing and they're not wrong. People feel guilty when they invest in a kids show like Dragon Ball in their adulthood. So they make these excuses that there are some deep meaning to every arc or any meaningful character development....

Re: What is the dumbest DB fan theory you have ever heard?

Even in anime/manga, Fist of the North Star did a lot of that stuff before Dragonball. Dragon Ball hasn't done anything that other shonen predating it hasn't done before (though, I suppose Dragon Ball did change the whole "manly artwork" scene in favor of "cute/goofy artwork"). Most of the tropes t...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

Bowlcut Gohan was just kind of generic. I prefer teen Gohan (actual teen not what Funimation thinks is a teen) from the Boo era or Saiyajin saga Gohan. Boo era Gohan is probably my second favorite version of the character and an upgrade from the Cell Games. He adopts a persona that isn't crying all...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

- Bowlcut Gohan is the best version of the character, in part because Namek is the best arc in Dragon Ball. He's in an extremely dire situation, but behaves more like a brave kid and a true hero than any other time after that. He does nothing against the Androids, then he trains to fight Cell and he...

Re: Vic Mignogna

This AnimeGate nonsense is getting blown out of proportion and just reinforces my disdain towards the anime community. I'm honestly just waiting for all the yaoi fan artists to bombard the AnimeGate hashtag with their fan art and literally ruin AnimeGate for those gatekeeping bigots at this point.

Re: Vic Mignogna

Is Vic Mignogna allegation even worst or similar to Michael Jackson 1993 trial and the 2005 trial. They're similar, but not quite. Mignogna will never in his lifetime ever dream of reaching the same fame as Michael Jackson did. The Michael Jackson case continues to this very day and age be the text...

Re: Vic Mignogna

Schemmel and Strait's dislike for Vic dates far back before the allegations. They even used to have a video series on Schemmel's YouTube channel that was basically him low-key shitting on Vic. I believe it was called "Kip Mangina." He deleted it some years ago, but I'm sure there are reuploads of it...

Re: Who are the best written couple in DB?

A character flaw is still a character flaw regardless if the story addresses it or not, because the author obviously intended his characters to have them. You failed to prove why this isn't the case. And Vegeta is arrogant in all of his fights (and general activities) regardless if the consequences...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

I have to argue semantics because you have an lackluster understanding of what DEM is. If Super Saiyan hadn't been constantly talked about, then it would've been sudden if he transformed out of nowhere, but it wasn't. I wouldn't call "sup, i fear super saiyans/want to be a super saiyan" foreshadowi...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

That's not an issue. Of course it gets activated at the last second. It's dramatic tension, just like when someone defuses a bomb at the last second. That doesn't make it a deus ex machina. A DEM has either no set up or an insufficient set up, one that breaks the rules of the fictional world. And t...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

I think the super saiyan transformation is a dumb ass pull, the only "foreshadowing" we had for it were the characters talking about the legend, but all it really meant was "it's a strong and evil saiyan", so it being a transformation just makes it feel like an asspull which doesn't make sense beca...

Re: Scariest character in Dragonball?

Imperfect Cell! He was a fantastic villain and one for the few characters who gave me the creeps. He felt like something straight out of a horror sci-fi movie like Ridley Scott's Alien with his "you can't see him, but you know he's there" nature and his shtick of sucking the life force out of people...

Re: Who are the best written couple in DB?

I made a common sense assumption based on your opinions about these relationships. Hardly an ad hominem since I made no value judgements about you. Alright, fair enough. You didn't address my rebuttals to your complaints about Bulma. I didn't address anything, because I already said what I had to s...

Re: Who are the best written couple in DB?

I didn't make any ad hominem attacks against anyone. I merely pointed out that arguments like those are reflective of people with little experience with relationships.A Then why did you have this innate urge to start bringing up my personal life and relationship experiences? I don't care about who ...

Re: Why hire an old lady when you can get a dude?

Stop bringing in TFS to the conversation - it's a parody show. There's no acting required. Even if it did, MasakoX does not capture Goku's spirit. He's not required to because he's not voicing Goku. It's a parody Goku. Do you think Power Rangers has good acting? Because that's about the level of ac...

Re: Which of FUNimation's Name Changes Bother You the Most?

"Bulla", "Hercule", "Krillin", "Tien Shinhan", "Vegito", "Frieza".

I also cannot stand "Destructo Disc", "Spirit Bomb", "Tri Beam", and especially "Special Beam Cannon". What kind of stupid name is that? I liked the German "Höllenspiral" (Spiral of Hell) much better.
