Is this really going to sell like the Orange Boxes? I'm pretty sure casual fans are just going to stick with those. It reminds me of Nintendo's current situation with the Wii U. The Wii was very appealing to casual audiences, but they aren't really interested in a "new and improved" version.

Re: The violence towards child Gohan is kinda disturbing.
True, but it's a little cheap, don't you think? Putting children in danger to gain the audience's sympathy, I mean. I retract what I said in my original post about Toriyama being potentially messed-up in the head, but I still think it's a little too dark for such a simplistic story.

Re: The violence towards child Gohan is kinda disturbing.
Yeah, Roshi's behavior doesn't bother me because it's so absurd that it's funny. Usually the wise martial-arts sensei is very well-mannered and restrained, but Toriyama flips that stereotype and makes him a goofy pervert.

Re: The violence towards child Gohan is kinda disturbing.
The real question is: can Goku actually be sexually aroused, or did he have to use all of his Ki to get hard for Chi-Chi?
Just because it's ficton doesn't mean it can't disturb you, and personally, I find Roshi to be very disturbing (though that's more in light of the Jimmy Savile scandal).

Re: First reactions to SSJ?
Well, sure, but opinions influence behavior. And homophobia influences hurtful (if not hateful) behavior.TheGmGoken wrote:Even if I was "Homophobic" it's just an opinion.

Re: First reactions to SSJ?
We did read your whole comment, and you happen to be leaving out the most offensive part:
I don't like Gay MEN..have nothing against lesbians. So you can see I'm 50% homophobic
Which is clearly present tense. And when you said " I'm ashamed at the fact I used to think this," it seemed to be in ...

Re: First reactions to SSJ?
Dude. What he said about being weary about gay people is definitely not good, and a terrible thing to say in public (Heck, I'm Christian, and even I think he's being stupid and backwards), but he has a right to express his opinion. You can't ban someone just because you don't like something they ...

Re: The violence towards child Gohan is kinda disturbing.
There was a three year gap, and then main characters started dropping like flies, murdered by demons shortly after, but you're right, it was a smoother transition. I'm not disagreeing with you per se, I think Dragon Ball was better than DBZ (that could be mostly due to Z being so slow though), I ...

Re: First reactions to SSJ?
I'm going to get hate for this but I hated it and thought it was the ugliest piece of shit I've ever seen. Yes this is true that I used to think this. I thought the hair was gay and promoting Gay Men(Sorry if this is offensive. I don't like Gay MEN..have nothing against lesbians. So you can see I'm ...

Re: The violence towards child Gohan is kinda disturbing.
DB ended perfectly, and it seemed like DBZ was largely unnecessary.
The end to DB does make a good ending, and had the series ended there I doubt there would have been many complaints, but remember that DBZ is not a sequel to DB, it is another part of the same story. All of DB and DBZ were ...

Re: The violence towards child Gohan is kinda disturbing.
The violence toward Goku got pretty bad, think of his battle against Piccolo once he got his youth back; he was being tortured. I think the big difference is the ages of the two. At that point in the series Goku was 15/16, he was just small for his age, at the start of the series Goku was 12, but ...

Re: The violence towards child Gohan is kinda disturbing.
I watched DB. Twice the whole way through, actually. The violence towards child Goku was largely slapstick, though. I don't think he ever had his neck broken.

Re: The violence towards child Gohan is kinda disturbing.
All that aside though, you already answered the question a little bit yourself - Toriyama is the kind of storyteller that does more silly than anything else. So even when he does get to the super violent stuff like this, he's not thinking about it in that light. He's just doing what the story ...

The violence towards child Gohan is kinda disturbing.
(Disclaimer: I haven't read the manga, and I've only gotten to episode 82 of DBZ, so maybe I'm missing the whole picture here.)
For a silly manga about beating up baddies, isn't showing brutal violence towards children a bit much? I mean, Gohan is 5, and we see him get beaten nearly to death, blood ...
