Re: How much dialog was actually changed from the Funimation original uncut Z dub and the orange brick “uncut redub”

Reading those lines from 1999 reminds me how cringe the dialogue was in season 3. They were dubbing DBZ in a similar style that Pokemon and Digimon did by making a dub that would only appeal to dumb kids that won't care about the story as long if they are entertained by it. now i'm thin...

Re: Dragon Ball Dragon Box have redubbed part

Interestingly enough, the English Z dub's line here suggests it was translated from the original broadcast version. The Kai dub obviously goes with the second version.

A lot of season 3 Vegeta if not all. The one that I know wasn't changed was any of Sean Schemmel stuff because he didn't want to because it showed how he has grown as an actor.
Vegeta's dialog was all rerecorded, but was it actually rewritten, too?

Re: Does anyone ever actually watch the Z dub with the Kikuchi score?

No, the Japanese version is more unwatchable because of the super low sound quality. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1zjyTM7rbJs https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq4EOPRbjqc https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LTDlQNRJOts https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnriaELk_pw Yes, clearly this is so much more watchable th...

Re: General Website Goofs/Errors

The section on the site about eyecatches apparently makes an error regarding the B music in the Buu arc. It says the alternate music was used in Episodes 201-202 instead of 200.

Re: On the subject of missing insert songs in Funimation's dub

No, the subtitled version is its own completely separate track from the M&SFX tracks given to Funimation. It's likely they didn't even initially have access to the former at the time of dubbing for parts of the series. It seems that many of the same insert songs are missing in other foreign dubs as ...

Re: Vic Mignogna

There's no way they're ever going to redub any of his finished work in re-releases either. Scott Freeman's voice has been left untouched every time one of the anime he was has been re-released, despite the fact that he was actually thrown in jail. Regarding Pierre Taki's roles in Judgement and Froze...

I quite like that they changed the name of Videl's superhero identity from "Great Saiyaman #2" to "Saiyagirl".
Saiyagirl? That’s not very PC. What about Saiyawoman or Saiyaperson.
It was Saiyawoman in GT, at least.

Re: Vic Mignogna

Honestly, him taking this to court is really just petty. He could've salvaged his reputation by just leaving Funi alone. Viz was still hiring him, and he's based in LA these days, so why go through this trouble? But no, he has to leave an upper decker just because he got fired after being warned num...

Yeah, I agree that it's a better name. They did revert to Saiyaman #2 in Wrath of the Dragon, though.

Re: Dub Changes That Don't Bother You...that much

I didn't mind "Mercenary Tao," but later on you had stuff calling him "general," which was pretty weird. The "General Tao" name actually predates the "Mercenary Tao" name, it comes from the Harmony Gold dubbed version of Mystical Adventure. FUNimation used this name in its Cell saga before dubbing ...

Re: Vic Mignogna

Japanese companies are actually a lot harsher on actors and other staff members who have done similar things. Even if they were invested in the situation, they certainly wouldn't take his side. Those videos are just clickbait.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

I kind of just see this as being really underwhelming. It's just a reissue of the same sets from a few years ago. Though the alternative would probably be getting pre-censored footage from Toei. I'm assuming by "entire series" they mean the 291 episode series, with no Specials or Movies included. Th...

Re: Bruce Faulconer returning to compose the score for DBS?

While we're on the subject, there actually is a question I have for Scott Morgan here. There are some instances in the series of tracks being different in the remastered version, apparently due to being the tracks originally intended for the scene before they were changed late in production. However...

Re: Bruce Faulconer returning to compose the score for DBS?

Had no idea that Toei was pissed about it, too. Forgive my lack of knowledge, but what's different about the other composers like Johnson and Menza. At least one other anime that Toei had dubbed themselves also had a replacement score, so I don't think it was the concept they were against.

Re: Bruce Faulconer returning to compose the score for DBS?

A little summary for those of us outside the US who can't access the site would be helpful, but this is getting off-topic anyway. Not sure what else there is to say. Faulconer isn't coming back. Dragon Ball hasn't had a region based replacement score since Budokai Tenkaichi 3. Nobody besides 4KMedi...

Re: Why does the Funi dub refuse to acknowledge Piccolo is a demon?

Apparently when they were in the early stages of adapting Yu Yu Hakusho, there was concern about whether they would be able to use the term "demon". That would add more credence to censorship being the inital reason, then. Yu Yu Hakusho started airing about half a year after the Buu arc began on CN.
