Colour Saturation is different. It's a lot better now. There's less of a smeared look. Does it still have that bad sharpening filter? Yes ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks

I hadn't seen this thread till after I posted in the 30th, so I'll post here as well. These are new encodes. They're way less saturated and I believe the colour grading is correct. The 30th is way oversaturated to the point that it looked like it was glowing and you needed a tint shift to get it ...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

So the new steelbooks are the 30th anniversary in a new package?
if so...Worth it?
I stayed away from all the blu ray releases because none were better than my Dragonbox sets.
are these blu rays worth the upgrade?

It's actually a different encode. I'm watching the Blu-ray on powerDVD so it's not ...

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular

Looks good. Overall the biggest thing I've noticed though is that Toei's originals aren't as damaged as I thought (There's still overcasts). I think there was saturation issues when bringing it to DVD which made things worse. The rest of the colour issues are probably from not making an analog copy ...

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular

So there was something I noticed after going through my Rock the Dragon set and watching the Goku vs Vegeta fight. I noticed the skies were a mix of green/blue vs the blue that was in the level sets. Here's a shot:

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

Season 1 dropped to $17.99 on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Blu-ray-Sean-Schemmel/dp/B00F9IB1M4/ref=zg_bs_2959127011_3

With these prices it's kind of hard for people to miss out on this considering how cheap they are.

Hopefully the Season BDs will make customers move to Blu-ray for ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

Edit: With people talking about the scans, I suspect they made a new scan. They're at least, not working with the work done to the Level sets. Though they made a new scan of the opening and I'm not sure where they got the footage for it (The Level set most likely used the movie scans for those ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

If anyone wants to watch DBZ 4:3 legally, you guys can check out the site Daisuki here . I'm not good at noticing the differences between all of the remasters unless compared side by side, but so far this one seems good. The player automatically upscales to 720p when there's a good connection. They ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

Le sigh, I bought the sets because I wanted to check them out with my own eyes. I was just noticing little things (Frame shaking wasn't mentioned much, but the grain wobbling was) and I was going into more depth (Frame fading wasn't mentioned, let alone that the colours are changing during still ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

Finally got my set. I have to say, this is one messed up release. Some points:

- Colours are all over the place. The production company didn't even bother to fix the faded corners of the film. I've seen colours change in still scenes. The saturation they did wasn't too bad though; better than the ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

I personally think Funimation used the survey for their marketing. They went on and on about the "improved" colours, but was pretty mum on the cropping until the last minute.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

They did extensive true-to-original-cels style color correction and cleared away the grain. I guess they'll do the same to Dragon Ball.
I guess it's hard to do extensive color correction without destroying grain when it comes to 16mm film footage. Grain gets in the way if you want to select a ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

Here's a video comparing the level sets, dragon boxes, and the blu ray season sets. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GEvLIkDBlk

Aren't the Blu season sets supposed to have more at the sides? Can't really say I'm seeing that. A part from that, the cropping in this video wasn't very disturbing, even ...

What free software did you use for those shots? I've been using avidemux and I couldn't get any good filters from it (Automagically removes the colour cast from episodes though...)

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

On another note; I found this from a poster on Blu-ray.com's forum on the set.

*snip*

That certainly isn't wrong; he Level Set's being too meticulous to produce was an explanation for their cancellation, not an excuse . Beyond that it's just reiterating that the massive noise reduction is ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

(The Dragon Box holds up for that season too; Bulma's hair is mostly blue).
Interestingly enough, looking at cel animation shows Bulma's hair isn't supposed to be blue though. We covered this in an older thread and someone pointed this out.

I'll copy/paste the pictures found by AnimeMaakuo in the ...
