So this series will almost have to end with a mind-wipe of some sort if it is to remain canon to DBS, right? Because the stories can't really mesh at all if the heroes always knew SS4 was a thing by the DBS-era.

No it wouldn't because Goku needs his tail for SS4, Neva's magic forcefully recreated the Tail and his magic forced Goku's body to dive deep into it's genetics to awaken SS4. SS4 was never considered in any shape way or form for DBS pre-Daima, and we don't even know what multiplier it has to begin ...

If indeed we get an actual SS3 fusion(or hell, maybe even a SS4 fusion at this rate) in Daima, would that retroactively give SSG Goku even more of a verifiable buff, given his statement in BoG that not even fusion would be enough to contend with Beerus(which potentially scales SSG above ...

Hopefully Piccolo is just pretending that he can't speak Namekian because he doesn't trust Neva and wants to keep him close by. Otherwise, yeah, it makes no sense.

Except that wasn't the case. Goku throughout the entire fight was telling gohan to unleash his full power. He was not only telling gohan to do so at the moment vegeta struck cell. It was indeed the case.
