Re: Which of the pre-BoG movie villains would you say was the best?

Yeah it's probably between Garlic Junior and Uiro for me, as I feel they had the most to work with. I like Coola as well. And yes, honorable mention goes to Lucifer for his battle with Goku while wearing sunglasses. 8)

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 14 - DB episodes 61-65 (CURRENT WEEK)

Karin is a nice addition to the series. I like his place and imagine what it might be like to live there. I like the way he does the dishes! The senzu or "sage beans" prove to be a lasting resource in the series, and it's interesting to watch it evolve. The pots of past, present, and future was inte...

Re: Other Fictional Characters that would fit in Dragon Ball

Super Mario Bros Donkey Kong Ninja Turtles Jonny Quest Looney Tunes Little Rascals Tom Sawyer Little House on the Prairie Doc Brown Alvin and The Chipmunks The Karate Kid Dragon Ball is really not something I can see outside characters coming into as it seems like it's in its own world and not somet...

Re: What do you want with Broly?

The universe of Dragon Ball is led by an amoral child god who deletes whole universes on whims. The god of destruction destroys planets that don't serve him worthwhile food. And the protagonist is a brain damaged hick, who likes to punch things, and mostly . At every turn in Dragon Ball sincerity a...

Re: What do you want with Broly?

Yeah these characters are pretty awful individuals initially and for a long time after the first arc ends are still notably flawed. Probably until the end of the series really. Oolong and Roshi remain shamelessly perverted, Yamcha remains broke and unemployed, Bulma remains Bulma. They do improve so...

Re: What do you want with Broly?

Oh if only we had some really strong resourceful person around, we'd be saved. I don't really think this is the message that those stories primarily send. I see it more as "Look at how these folks are living their lives, see what's possible when you work hard enough and/or are fortunate enough and ...

Re: The Baba Arc should be rolled into the RRA Arc

I never said that Uranai Baba wasn't its own arc, just that its episode count doesn't disqualify it from being a part of a larger arc. Even using your definition the RRA are no longer a dominant and central presence. There's also no rule about the timeframe of a story arc. They were a dominant prese...

Re: The Baba Arc should be rolled into the RRA Arc

Uranai Baba is only ten episodes and takes place during the same day, immediately after the RRA's defeat. Including Upa and the Dragon Ball search reinforces the saga's conclusion, after which it immediately shifts into the next story. "Red Ribbon" doesn't just refer to the characters or their speci...

Re: The Baba Arc should be rolled into the RRA Arc

In my view the Red Ribbon story undoubtedly includes Uranai Baba, but Baba is still it's own story at the same time. It's not all one way or the other. I agree with most of this, but I wouldn't consider her tournament a part of their story. Their story ended. Baba's tournament is the conclusion of ...

Re: What do you want with Broly?

Fantasy for adults doesn't necessarily have to be "power fantasy". Or is the argument that some things are too silly to be considered "adult"?

Re: The Baba Arc should be rolled into the RRA Arc

I think it's worth noting that not everyone will necessarily be using the same definition of the word "arc". Some might approach things more literally or more conventionally, while others use broader definitions or go their own way. Then you have additional terms including "saga" which can change th...

Re: The Baba Arc should be rolled into the RRA Arc

Why Funimation split the Cell portion alone into 3 sagas but treat the Wedding Dress arc and Other World tournament arc as part of the Piccolo Jr saga and Grear Saiyaman saga is anyone’s guess. I think I remember that they were originally going to use "Kai Tournament" or something like that but the...

Re: The Baba Arc should be rolled into the RRA Arc

If I recall there was a "Tien Shinhan" saga in there. Also I think the Other World Tournament was rolled into the Great Saiyaman saga somehow.

Re: The Baba Arc should be rolled into the RRA Arc

Since when has the Baba arc ever been sectioned off from the Red Ribbon Saga? I would think that most understand it to be the final part of that storyline. I think it's fine to divide the Red Ribbon Saga into smaller sections when appropriate. The Uranai Baba arc is just one of them. I know Funimati...

Re: Gohan 's "main character" status and Toei's fascination

I don't think there was really much of a fascination at all. I think Toei's interest in Gohan as the main character was limited to the DBZ planning stages, which is why the OP/ED are Gohan heavy. After that they just didn't bother to change them until the Boo saga, which by that point Gohan was actu...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 13 - DB episodes 56-60 (CURRENT WEEK)

For some reason I thought Lunch, Suno, and Cyborg 8's scenes were in the manga and not anime exclusive. Both Sno and #8 were in the manga for the Genki Dama, but Lunch is anime-only. In fairness, anecdoes go around that Toriyama originally planned the chapter to have Lunch show up, but he replaced ...

Re: Endings

It bothers me when series end unexpectedly or when they don't really have to, or when external factors get in the way. Like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which could have continued twice as long as it did. Ditto Angel. Or Sailor Moon, which had more to go. On the other hand you have series like Yuu Yuu ...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 13 - DB episodes 56-60 (CURRENT WEEK)

These episodes introduce Bora and Upa, who lead a unique life in the land of Karin. I like how their way of living is displayed as being unusual to outsiders, but still noble. I like how Bora doesn't hesitate to kill Colonel Yellow's men, he just does what he does and don't apologize for it. It's hi...

Re: What do you want with Broly?

Another thing about shows failing after the main character is gone is that usually it happens when the actors are being selfish and up and quit on everybody, leaving the writers and producers scrambling. Or some kind of unexpected conflict arises that forces an abrupt exit. So then the future storyl...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 13 - DB episodes 56-60 (CURRENT WEEK)

I think Arale can ride Kinto-un cuz she's pure of heart, and that's it.

I don't think that means she has a soul or is a living, breathing person though. Although if she were "killed", I believe Shen Long could resurrect her.

I think Toriyama just didn't care enough about #16 to bother either way.
