Only really skimmed the thread but even in it's highly censored "Saban dub" format, there was NOTHING like DBZ on US TV at the time. It made no apologies for being a martial arts show - the characters fight and there were no hand wringing "violence is wrong!" morals. It was great.

They've flirted with it at times but I'd absolutely be game for a story where the actual B-teamers have to defeat the villain on their own. And none of this "we need to hold them off until Goku arrives!" type stuff but I want all the Saiyans and Piccolo INCAPACITATED somehow. Not "oh they're off ...

Yeah, the CONSTANT talking in the dub is something that drives me nuts, especially when it's VERY obvious that no one else is supposed to be talking. The dub also feels....overly punchy in spots. Too many characters being smartasses.

Maybe Nadolny posted bail? Either way it's too bad. I actually didn't mind her Kid Goku outside of the gravelly voice that a lot of female VAs use when they're voicing little boys. I'm watching some old DB with my kids and I think she captures his ignorant goofy side pretty well

The dub can be alright nowadays but the "legacy cast" - the guys who have been around since 1999 really bog it down. There's a large segment of the fanbase that would riot if that happened so you know that's not happening anytime soon.

Honestly? That really cool high pitched demonic scream Scott McNeil would sometimes do as Piccolo. Sounds awesome and otherworldly.

The characters did things in the meantime, yes.
But the story still frames itself like their success depended on Goku's return at the end of the day.
