Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 42 - DBZ episode 33-37 (CURRENT WEEK)

Regarding the scene where Goku spares Vegeta, it’s interesting to note that the dub for the first Budokai game actually kind of got that moment right, despite having come out in 2002. I think Bandai kept tight control over the scripts for the Budokai games, so Funi weren't allowed to fuck it up. Th...

There was neevr an Arabic dub of GT made due to low popularity in Japan and most countries, according to the Dragon Ball Wiki. I wouldn’t take anything that dumpster fire of a site says to heart You really don't need to shit on the DBZ wiki that much, man TBH, we don't shit on it enough. The Fandom...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Well, the Ocean dub of Z is incomplete because they skipped over a chunk of episodes to catch up to FUNi when AB Groupe had Ocean dub episodes for the UK. And I doubt they'd contract Ocean just to have the actors they could get back to dub those episodes with FUNi's scripts. It'd be a waste of time...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 42 - DBZ episode 33-37 (CURRENT WEEK)

Obligatory pick-on Funimation for their bizarre business decisions times So when Funimation decided to release the show on dvd season sets they decided to retroactively make 9 seasons out of six broadcast seasons . Which aside from the obvious motivation of selling more dvd sets had some method to ...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Yup, honestly I think the broadcast dub is dead to Funimation. Every release since 2005, excluding Rock the Dragon has used the remastered dub. It is very clear the redub is the only dub of Z they care about selling. I think that has to do with them getting the most polished version of their dubs o...

Re: FUNimation downgrading surround sound to stereo

Maybe the rest of the series was only done in stereo and they didn't want it to be a huge change (which is why they haphazardly redubbed "seasons" 3 and 4). Or maybe, they felt that nobody cared about the dub of the Ultimate Uncut portion of the series. I know that I never cared about it -- I can't...

This is a dumb question but is the old DBZ dub included on these? Meaning the one from 2000-2003 and the 2005 redub?
No, but the weird 2007-2008 partial redub/remix of the 2000-2006 dubbing is included.

If you want the old dub, you want the old DVD singles, no other release has it.

Re: Would you pay Funimation via Kickstarter for a redub of the full Dragon Ball media

Arguably, both Goku and Chichi should have Texan-sounding accents to give some kind of equivalent to the original Japanese accents. (It's not exact, but it's close enough) Anyway... If Funi ran a Kickstarter to potentially redub the original run, I would be a little cautious. If they were going to u...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 41 - DBZ episode 28-32 (CURRENT WEEK)

KBABZ and I planned in advance to do a really cool bit of trivia this week, then completely forgot about it. So, last night KBABZ wrote up half of it, then I wrote the other half, and I'm adding it to the OP. Here it is: This collection of episodes also marks the point in time in which the Harmony G...

Re: My Attempt to Improve the Orange Bricks

I used to own the orange bricks, but the glaring and deleted lines of animation took a lot out of the experience. Even in motion it's an incredibly jarring way to watch the series. Season BDs are vastly superior, ditto the 30th anniversary remaster from what I've seen, although both still have issu...

Re: My Attempt to Improve the Orange Bricks

Looks a touch too dim, but otherwise the colors are great! Unfortunately there's just no way to fix the OB's greatest offense, the vanishing lines, without a frame by frame fix (oh, the irony). Because of that, there's no real point to color correcting the OB's, but it's still interesting. Their gr...

Re: What was the mindset behind the infamous “brilliant scientist” line?

The brilliant scientist line comes from the Saban dub though. When the Saiyan saga was redubbed in 2005 they removed that line and had Vegeta talk about blutz waves like the original. It's no longer there in the dub. Yes, they eventually fixed it, but Funimation still wrote that line back in 1996 w...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 39 - DBZ episode 18-22 (CURRENT WEEK)

I failed to communicate to KBABZ which episodes were on the docket this week, so his initial round of trivia only covered episodes 18-21, so I've now added trivia for #22 that he wrote after we realised the mistake. Here's what we've added: From this point, Gohan is no longer dressed in the orange g...

Re: Dragon Ball Movies HD Remaster - Amazon Video/Netflix Japan - Discussion Thread

So how do the Funi releases of the movies compare to this new Toei remaster? Are the movies gonna be re-released stateside at some point then? Thx Funi's releases look perfectly fine. Not as nice as Toei's, but Funi are very unlikely to import the Japanese masters at this point, much in the same wa...

Re: Did FUNimation continue UUC production?

I'm sorry to derail the conversation, but why is the Orange Brick remaster so inconsistent? That last screenshot would look perfectly fine if it wasn't cropped. For the most part, the Orange Brick remaster is a perfectly fine scan of Funimation's perfectly fine film masters. The DNR does make it a ...

Re: Problem #472 with the Dragon Boxes - DNR

Reviving this dead thread cause i just want to mention: I'm 99% sure the ghosting isnt a product of DNR rather its caused by the telecine being stored in tape. Hunter x Hunter suffers from the same ghosting in dark scenes and it absolutely received no DNR whatsoever, they just took the broadcast ta...
