Re: "Sparking! ZERO" Official Announcement, Pre-, & Post-Release Discussion Thread

This morning Survival Mode landed.

If the date is anything to go by, the Neo DLC might be coming out on july 21st.

Re: "Sparking! ZERO" Official Announcement, Pre-, & Post-Release Discussion Thread

There's still some hope.

They've revealed 28 characters and it's said there'll be +30. So, I guess at least 5 more characters are still coming that we don't even know about. Unless they are the ohzaru forms for the saiyans.

But if there are more characters:
Rildo
All 3 Tamagami
Ice Shenron

I ...

Re: "Sparking! ZERO" Official Announcement, Pre-, & Post-Release Discussion Thread

I just need GT Goten and I'm set. GT Gohan could be just a new skin for Z Adult Gohan.
And the Tamagamis that got shafted in favor of stupid Panzy who doesn't even fight.

And the new skins, this is sweet.

As far as stages, I'm not completely sold with these, but it ain't bad either. Mountain ...

Re: Dragon Ball Super Strength Discussion Thread

Whether resurrection implies a zenkai boost or not, is still in the air.
Logically, it shouldn't because the body is not recovering from near death but from death itself... or perhaps logic indicates it should, depending on the injuries.
For instance, Goku's body was not recovering from anything ...

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?

Gohan also gets that power up after unearthing a legendary sword, buried eons ago, that no god was ever able to, and then unlocks an old god living inside the sword. Very simplistic take so say he only sat down for hours.
Can't even wrap my head around the concept of not having earned a power up ...

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?

It's false that there was nothing stopping Toriyama from making Earthlings as strong as Saiyans. What actually stopped him was the established narrative. This isn’t a minor detail, it’s the core lore of the series, and breaking it would undermine the internal logic of the world, especially that late ...

Re: Do you think Dragon Ball should be more violent/Graphic?

Is just as graphic as I want it to be, even the DBS manga is very violent. However, the anime is very watered down and I'd like for it to be less censored.

But the manga has always been, and still is (well, was) quite graphic.

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?

I think the issue comes from thinking stories are math equations, if X doesn't serve a purpose then it is useless. It is not, some things are there to make us laugh, to relax for a bit, to be breathers.

The tokusentai are there to break the tension for a moment, like a pit stop (granted, it might ...

Re: Dragon Ball Super Strength Discussion Thread

To me, a 10x boost between arcs from regular training is too much. That’s even greater than the boosts they usually get during some arcs, when they’re actively trying to break their limits with a clear goal in mind (except for the Namek arc).

During arcs, there have been huge improvements under ...

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?

There was no reason to have No.18 show up to fight the One Star Dragon. She obviously would've just gotten beaten up, and we had more than enough fodder characters (Oob, Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Vegeeta after he loses SS4) to be punching bags.

No.18 already had her little moment when she helped ...

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?

Kurilin's third death was when Boo killed him during the Boo arc, not GT. For all the criticism you gave his death in GT, it's ironic that you indirectly admitted it was more memorable than his death in the Boo arc. There was nothing to really be felt from his death in GT because he had already ...

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?

Krilin's death in GT is such a nothing burger that I don't even take it seriously. It's so irrelevant that, except for his wife, nobody is even aware it happened. It wasn't even meant to affect the main characters, only to fuel one character: 18.
Piccolo's is so forced and whimsical that it's ...

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?

I think there’s a misunderstanding of how these characters function. Yamcha was introduced with comedic traits, a desert bandit whose weakness is women, but still a competent fighter within the early power scale. Saying he “became a joke” ignores that this tone was part of the series from the ...

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?

I think it became a self-conscious trope, since Akira used it as a red herring in the Cell arc, and in the Buu arc he was purposely left out.

However, it made sense in the first two Z arcs to wait for him. On Namek, they were waiting for the Legendary Super Saiyan, and on Earth they were waiting ...

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?

I think the notion of the earthlings lamenting they are out of the new villain's league is blown out of proportion, I mean they do complain but it's not that big of a deal.
After Namek, they are mostly just trying to better themselves, knowing the torch has been passed to the reformed villains and ...

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?

It's a trope that was overused, in my opinion, but used wisely at first.

The Saiyan arc does a good job and is one of the first ones where this trope is obvious and well done: he is dead and there are consequences to his late arrival: 4 dead friends.

The Namek arc kinda pushes the envelope, having ...

Re: Is Yamcha a celebrity?

If he is, then he probably is very critiziced and disliked. In that baseball episode, he joined the brawl and beat even his own teammates up. He must've been banned from the league for sure, and the media should've destroyed him.
